I love this woman. Her dramatic pause when announcing Parasite’s BP win was my favourite moment of 2020.

Also doubt Dolly would present it after the Emmys when the three of them presented an award and Tomlin and Fonda accused Trump of misogyny and harassment, putting Parton in an awkward position in stage. There is a great discussion of this moment in the brilliant Dolly Parton’s America podcast, Dolly herself was not stoked, Fonda had regrets.

Also I have a huge soft spot for Grace and Frankie.

Carrey and Cruise are pretty young. Close is someone I believe will get it soon. I think Dame Fonda is an excellent choice. She hasn’t done anything worth mentioning for decades because the opportunities aren’t there.

Clooney and Foster were younger than Cruise and Carrey when they were awarded. You tell me which two are more deserving to win it.</p>

    No tf they aren’t

Jane came out swinging in the 1960’s and is still killing it currently. She eats both of these men up

Cruise and Carrey are bigger stars.

This isn’t an award for stardom. If it was then Jennifer Lopez would be winning.

Jane Fonda obviously has had a greater impact. Being a part of one of the most game changing female led films of all time, being a two time Academy Award winner, being vocal about the way Hollywood treated ethnic groups in film and depicted war, being a part of one of the most groundbreaking sitcoms of all time (I mean why else are Hollywood stars jumping onto television nowadays to do sitcoms) and is one of the most well respected performers in cinema history. She absolutely deserves it over a 50 something Mission Impossible actor.

Foster is a two time Academy Award winning actress and has been in Oscar nominated and industry respected films since she was 7.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

ugh I didn’t even think about this! Fonda is too iconic to be spared the fanfare of an in person ceremony.

Off topic, but I sort of feel the same way about the possibility of The Queen … ahem … without a proper massive send off.

    Why awkward?

Because Dolly is famously and fiercely apolitical. That’s why she has such mass appeal. Strongly recommend the Dolly Parton’s America podcast, it is sensational.
