TimeCop is his best. It was the #1 movie in America when it came out, it has a fun/twisty plot, it has a ton of heart, and Van Damme’s best performance. Now, it’s the sort of performance where a guy in phenomenal shape plays an alcoholic, depressed cop, but for JeanClaude, it’s a performance with emotional weight, wit, and flying kicks. Peter Hyams is one of my favorite directors when he gets his head out of his rectum, and this is a solid entry for him.
Ron Silver is a good baddie, who has particularly good chemistry with himself when he plays two versions of himself in a few scenes. Mia Sara is just as lovely as she was in 1986. Bruce McGill gets one of his best roles as JeanClaude’s grumpy but heroic boss.

Apparently, the only movie ever nominated for an Oscar with him in the cast (KUNG FU PANDA 2) doesn’t “count” as a JCVD film by RT.

I guess they were going after films where he was the center of attention.

His filmography is better than Seagal’s.
