I think both were excellent in small roles.

I personally prefer Laurie Metcalf, whom I wish had more film roles in addition to her outstanding TV filmography – one of my performances ever (film or TV) is from Laurie Metcalf in Desperate Housewives’s “Bang”.

Metcalf ate every scene she was in so I’m going to lean towards her (especially considering she gives one of my favourite film performances ever in Lady Bird).

Spacek was excellent too though.

Solidarity with the striking writers. Pay them the wages they are owed for bringing us the content we are all on here because of!
