Is he this year’s Leo? Reviews from Venice certainly boost his chances

No, because genre bias, he won’t campaign, and someone has already won for the same role.

Excuse me,Wasn’t Leo’s performance in Revenant best acting in lead role in the year 2015.You can’t win 34 acting awards in 1 season solely on overdue narrative.

Then haven’t Joaquin totally hit it out of park as Arthur/Joker in the movie.Isn’t his performance being touted as not only 2019’s but this decade’s best male lead performance.

Sure, there is overdue factor in both cases but it’s not the only case.

Another actor already won for this character. I think it hurts Phoenix’s chances to win. He may get nominated though.

I am sorry but that is not it.De Niro and Brando both won Oscars for playing Vito Corleon.

Stanning Driver is good as he’s one hell of an actor but who told you Joaquin won’t campaign.Have you not seen his VFF press conference. This isn’t really a superhero movie or related to DCEU,it’s more of a adapted screenplay so there’s your genre bias.

He’s winning because he’s overdue, delivers in the role and his movie will be a box office success.

I sure hope so. Rooting for him and Leo this year.

I just love movies. And awards.

Wouldnt the fact that someone already won for the role show that it is a role fit for oscars? We do this all the time with the long suffering wife role and dont bat an eye. Heck, we got Little Women in the top 5 across the board for people playing the same roles all over again. Critics havent had any trouble distinguishing between the parts and I dont think voters will either! I think it Phoenix has got a strong a shot as any.

Phoenix may be getting great notices, but he’s still got a lot in his way (genre bias, the role has won before, his unlikable behavior, the film is unlikely to make it into Best Picture, he typically doesn’t campaign, and most importantly, best actor is stacked this year).

Joaquin can get in and win if he stops being arrogant and decides to campaign everywhere for once. I mean it worked for Gary Oldman!

Joaquin Phoenix still isn’t impressing experts. A lot of them updated predictions today (six people) and even after the movie’s reactions he’s like 4th or 5th or isn’t even in the list. https://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/expert-predictions/oscars-nominations-2020/actor/sort/recent/

Since when Experts mean anything? I mean, literally zero of them predicted Rami Malek to win the Oscar at this time of the year. And we all know how sad that story ended.

I don’t think it’s happening because critics are obviously against it. They won’t push him because 1) They don’t want him to win 2) They don’t think he has a shot and won’t predict him. They are too powerful these days and they know that.

Even if he gets a Globe win, he would probably lose SAG to the other Globe winning actor and the BAFTA as well. If he was british, he would have a better shot, winning Globe + BAFTA.

I’m just wondering why there needs to be a Joker movie at all. There’s Heath, there’s Jack, and then there’s….nothing else.
