Where did this rumor come from?

A World of Reel article misreading.

Still, what production isn’t improved with the inclusion of Malcolm McDowell?

i love gaga, but the way she talked in the press tour was def cringe at times. that being said, so is the way a lot of actors talk about their process … especially actors who are good at these big character roles. i think it’ll be very interesting to see how JP’s process for this will be covered/discussed in comparison to LG’s edit: whoops meant to quote the post a couple up but it didn’t work i guess

but that’s who she is. She’s never going to be your typical anything. She has always been extremely extra and that is why she has achieved what she has. You have to have more than talent to get to her level. She’s endlessly crossing over into different lanes and fan demographics and succeeding. I don’t really know anybody else who does it like her. And she doesn’t do that by being quiet and demure. But as somebody else said.. Its very easy to take a soundbite of her interviews to drive clicks but if you actually listen in context it’s not nearly as weird. I’ve definitely heard actors you all claim as “normal” say that kind of stuff before.

yeah most other actors don’t have every single quote from every single interview flooding 9272928 twitter accounts the second the interview comes out. i honestly think gaga stan accounts hurt her by constantly magnifying the more ridiculous quotes / getting them to go viral. anyway, who else would we like to see cast in this?

A lot of Gaga fans love when people think she’s weird and crazy though…. That’s her origin story lol. They start to get restless when she does too much that appeals to the GP.

And let’s be honest, If Gaga did a basic ass, no frills, “great cast, great script” press tour most people would still complain. I think she’s earned the right to do things her way at this point. She’s backed it up with enough talent, hard work and longevity. I love the Frances McDs and Laura Linneys and respect their approach but we need a bit of colour and unpredictability in showbiz too!! And who isn’t scared of pushing the envelope or so wrapped up in how they will be received by the public that they water themselves down. Gaga has never done that. She’s grown up and evolved of course but she’s still gonna do things her way.

I’d be happy with Tom Hanks and Glenn.

I know they already cast Lady Gaga, but I honestly believe the most obvious choice for Todd Philips’ Harley Quinn is Sydney Sweeney.

If anyone has seen the season 2 finale of Euphoria, you’d understand why.

Honestly Lady Gaga is a better fit, specially because Sidney is like 23 years younger than Joaquin, everyone would’ve bitching about the age gap.

Sydney Sweeney would be better as Poison Ivy imo. Maybe for a younger Joker, but Gaga is already younger than Joaquin Phoenix.

erm… girl is literally 24 while Phoenix is 47, that would be hella weird.

Harley Quinn was always younger than the Joker, Jessica Chastain would be a great poison Ivy.

I know it’s way too far away and the movie didn’t even shoot yet but do we really think this has a chance at the Oscars? Even if it’s great.
I find myself thinking about that because there are few sequels that did great with the academy and for Gaga herself, i don’t see Harley Quinn as a character to earn an Oscar.
I do think SAG would be the first to nominate them tho.

What are your opinions if I may ask?

still too early, but assuming reception is similar to the first, her & Joaquin are def getting the GG, CC, & SAG noms, and likely ensemble & BAFTA (considering how much the Brits love Gaga)

This sequel is design to be an Oscar contender, the industry loved the first movie and Joaquin’s performance it would be iconic if Gaga becomes the first actress ever to be nominated for a comic book movie because she would be the first right? Praying for the movie to not be a disaster, Todd Phillips doesn’t have a good track with sequels, that’s my biggest concern, i don’t know what kind of involvement Scorsese could have in this sequel besides being a producer.

Yeah i was thinking about that too.
The Hangover II and III are literally panned hard.
In fact, his only “green” movie on MC is The Hangover. But we can hope that the Industry embrace the movie even if the critics don’t, like the first Joker.

Honestly Lady Gaga is a better fit, specially because Sidney is like 23 years younger than Joaquin, everyone would’ve bitching about the age gap.

Let’s compare with the only other person to play Harley Quinn in a live-action movie: Margot Robbie.

Robbie was born in July 1990. Suicide Squad was released in August 2016. Robbie’s age: 26 years and 1 month.

Sweeney was born in September 1997. This movie will be released in October 2024. Sweeney’s age: 27 years and 1 month.

That’s right. Sweeney would actually be older in this movie than Robbie was in Suicide Squad.

    *

Now let’s also compare the age gaps.

Jared Leto was born in  December 1971. Robbie was born in July 1990. Age difference: 18 years and 7 months.

Joaquin Phoenix was born in October 1974. Sweeney was born in September 1997. Age difference: 22 years and 11 months.

    *

Based on the above information, if we are to go by established precedent Sweeney is just about the right age for the role. And if we are to go by established precedent the age gap between her and Phoenix is actually pretty reasonable.

Impossible to say, we’ll see the reception, the first one wasn’t loved by critics but still made it.
