How quickly it went from standalone to we need a sequel is interesting.November 20, 2019 at 8:10 am #1203192014
Announcing a sequel while campaigning contradicts their whole narrative they’ve been pushing LMAO
This could jeopardize it’s Oscar chances.November 20, 2019 at 8:15 am #1203192037
I really wanted to see Joaquin playing face painted Joker,he really was Arthur most of times in this movie but I am not sure about it.
It certainly jeopardise Joaquin’s and films chances at awards next year.Really dumb to announce it pre Oscars.
Guess,Driver is sweeping after all?

Well Hollywood is all about the money after all and this is the second most profitable movie of this decade after Endgame.
I don’t like it buy it’s hardly a suprise.
money does indeed speak volumes doesn’t it. Oscar narrative for the first one out the window just like that.November 20, 2019 at 8:56 am #1203192180
I hope this is bad news for its awards prospects. This was always a franchise film and never some “art film in a comic book universe.”
Announcing a sequel doesnt get rid of the golden lion and the golden frog. Of course GD overreacts to completely expected news.November 20, 2019 at 9:05 am #1203192223This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.November 20, 2019 at 9:06 am #1203192225

”Expected news” when Todd has kept saying Joker was only going to be a standalone film? This literally contradicts the whole standalone narrative and is something to consider but okay lmao.November 20, 2019 at 9:34 am #1203192371

Joker was more profitable than Endgame and there are more profitable movies than both of them.November 20, 2019 at 9:50 am #1203192422
We (members of Gold Derby) tend to overanalyze the smallest bits of news as “nail in the coffin” or “smoking gun” type phenomena, when, in reality, I don’t believe the Academy is this sensitive to daily gossip.
This same Academy nominated Black Panther when they knew a sequel was on its way. Joker’s narrative is not “this is an art film” because they are really playing up the fact that it’s made 1B at the box office. Art films don’t do that. I’m sure the Joker camp is trying to replicate Black Panther’s tragectory by saying look how big of a cultural phenomenon this movie is and hoping Academy members actually liked it enough to vote for it. The latter is still to be determined.
I doubt this news does anything. Let’s relax and wait until GG announcements when I’m sure the reason if it misses is not because people don’t think it’s art, but it’s because people don’t love the movie more than other movies this year plain and simple.
