Literally everyone but kord is saying Octavia stands no chance I’d love for it to happen, but from what we’ve seen, it ain’t.

What the actual fuck? I’m rooting for Octavia.

I’m saying you’re the only one to think she’ll get nominated for Ma. We think Luce is her ticket this year.

Can this thread please stay about “Us?!”

I just watched the movie and I absolutely adored it. Pardon my messy thoughts, but I haven’t collected them properly since I just came from the theater.

    – Lupita Nyong’o, holy shit. She’s the real deal in this movie; it’s absolute Oscar bait with her dual roles. But I don’t want to say much because I don’t want to spoil anything. I don’t know if she’ll make the lead actress lineup, but she absolutely deserves it. She is far and away the lead of this movie. She sold me with one scene in particular.

    – The supporting cast is great, but I don’t see anyone but Nyong’o getting nominated. Moss was absolutely great in her limited screen time; she had some fun doing this movie. She has one spectacular scene, proving once again that she’s a phenomenal actress.

    – The humor. I don’t think I’ve laughed in any comedy as much as I did in “Us.” There is a scene involving Moss that just made me laugh so incredibly hard. Winston Duke is probably the main reason why I laughed so much.

    – The storyline is… even more bizarre than in “Get Out.” It will take a few rewatches and some analysis videos to fully understand what Peele was trying to do with story. I don’t know if this will get Best Original Screenplay, because I don’t think a lot of people will understand it entirely (like me). The story is obviously very interconnected and every little thing means something, but I’m not sure it came together as seamlessly as it did in “Get Out.” There are some pretty insane twists.

    – The score was absolutely phenomenal. They use the score from the trailer in a very important scene towards the end. Talking about the end, a Best Editing nod is almost in the bag. A scene towards the end convinced me. Same with Sound Editing and Mixing. Superb. Cinematography is possible (and it was extremely visually stunning), but again, it didn’t always standout.

    – I am not too sure about Best Director; I don’t think his direction was flashy enough. Well, it’s flashy but in the end it’s a horror movie, and I don’t know if people will gravitate towards that.

So, in conclusion, I don’t know whether this will be an Oscar movie. It’s no “Get Out,” because it leans much more into the horror/ thriller aspect. At least to me, the social relevance factor didn’t stick out that much even though I know it’s there. Go in and enjoy the ride, try not to view it as a potential Oscar contender. It’s just so much fun. I liked it more than “Get out” tbh.

Will it be submitted to comedy at the globes ?

Very possible, because I laughed 10 times more than I did in “Get Out,” which was submitted in comedy.

Oh, also expect the movie to divide audiences, because I don’t think everyone will love it

I’ve got so much questions lol but I’m seeing it this weekend so I won’t ask them. I’m trying to go with the least information possible.

I don’t think it’s a divisive movie, actually, but I think many people may just say “it was fine.” Just have fun, that’s my advice. Because I had a blast!

So I just finished watching it. It was fucking phenomenal.

The beginning was incredibly slow and I was afraid that it was/got overpraised due to a Get Out after effect, but once the copies (the “Tethered”) arrived, it did not disappoint. It’s a walking metaphor for America and society trying to make you conform to its standards. I’m leaving out how I feel about the ending. I didn’t really care for the score in the beginning but by the end it was amazing, especially with *that* scene. Loved the inclusion of the various songs. The editing was definitely made to be in response to Get Out and to win the Oscar, so is the sound. Lupita was amazing and my next favorite was the daughter, then Moss. I think I preferred Get Out more, but I don’t know at the same time since they’re vastly different.

The Oscar noms I’m going to be predicting are: Picture, Actress, Editing, Sound Editing and Mixing. I don’t know if I’m going to predict Screenplay/Director or not; like Luca said, the social awareness isn’t on the nose like Get Out was, so he’ll need to campaign hard for this reason. It’s also going to get into Comedy at the Globes and Lupita is winning the Globe over Zellweger for sure.

    Here is my review

So this was pretty fucking amazing. I’m glad I stayed away from trailers and reviews from this one. There are enough clues in the film that makes it all satisfying where you finally get to see how it all ends up. I thought the early predicts for N’yongo to get an oscar nod for this were funny and then I saw the film and am now a believer. She elevates the already great material. She is creepy as fuck and at the same time loving and caring. I can totally see SAG going for her with the early release date and with it being a probable populist hit. SEE THIS FILM!

At this stage in the game it looks like an across the board contender. It’s up to the rest of the field to catch up.

Just saw the movie, critics better do their thing and push Nyongo for the best actress nomination.

Hell yes, Kellis! I can’t get Lupita Nyong’o and Elisabeth Moss’ performance out of my mind. So damn good. What did you think of that one funny moment involving Moss and the word “police?”

I completely forgot about that; I literally died when that happened (lol). Everything about Moss was relatable: from the vodka-o-clock (painfully) to the failed Alexa(?) commands.

I just loved her character, haha. I was still laughing minutes after that Alexa moment, lmao.
