They already received backlash for putting Get Out in comedy and Us is even less comedic than Get Out. Some jokes here and there does not make it a comedy film.
That being said, I don’t think Us will get the same awards love that Get Out got. At the Oscars, I think it’ll only get Best Screenplay and Best Actress nods.March 27, 2019 at 3:06 pm #1202831494
They received backlash for putting The Martian in comedy, then they doubled down by awarding it.March 27, 2019 at 4:45 pm #1202831585
Im curious to see where Universal submits Us at the globes. If It does go in comedy-musical category, It will be competing with their other movie Cats(big musicals is like catnip to the HFPA). They also the new daniel kuluua film queen and slim and the world war one film 1917 which both for sure will be submitted as dramas.March 27, 2019 at 5:11 pm #1202831605
I am honestly not sure about the movie legs… seriously it was a HUGE let down. People were laughing all the time, but not in a good way. There were like wtf is this?! A dozen of people left before the end of the movie… there’s nothing award worthy about this film beside maybe Lupita and the score… that’s it. Get Out was WAY better than this.
Well these holds over the past few days have shown that this will have legs. So it looks like the “divisive” nature of the third act won’t factor much into its bonafide success.March 27, 2019 at 5:25 pm #1202831623

Ladies and gentlemen we now have a new clapback queen! O’Hara is still king of clapbacks thoughMarch 27, 2019 at 6:50 pm #1202831699
As successful as Us can be, I really don’t expect it to do well at award season. A best actress nod is enough to make me happy!March 27, 2019 at 6:58 pm #1202831707
Finally watching this next week. If the comments I’ve read seem to pan out and the narrative holds, then great for Lupita. She would be accomplishing something that Essie, Toni and Jamie Lee could not.March 28, 2019 at 8:01 am #1202832317
I saw it two days ago and I have to say this was an incredible film. Lupita was absolutely alluring and simply fantastic. She deserves that Best Actress nom. I hope the film picks up several nominations but Best Actress is the only one I care about at the moment.
Elisabeth Moss & Shahadi Wright Joseph were also very impressive and deserving of acclaim as well.March 28, 2019 at 9:38 am #1202832415

But Toni Collette was even better than Lupita. But Lupita is in a Jordan Peele movie so she’ll obviously get a nomination when others could not 🙄
