2011 was a GOLD MINE for lead actresses. Yet with the exception of Rooney Mara, the actual lineup kinda had me going, “Really? That’s what we ended up with?” But that’s what polls like this are for. To avenge the overlooked. My pick from this poll would be Charlize Theron, but how about you folks?

My winner from this year was Elizabeth Olsen. What a breakthrough performance. Shame she’s not really been given a real chance to shine since then.

Extremely competitive year, and I did like the line-up as well. I’d also add Mia Wasikowska for Jane Eye, and Keira Knightley for A Dangerous Method among others.

I honestly couldnt decide between Swinton, Theron, and Olsen. All three gave different types of performances that were each individually superb. In the end I go with Swinton, such emotional yet subtle work.

There was a thread about this a couple of months back in regards to Theron’s performance (one of my personal faves of all time, and proof that she’s one of the most underrated actresses working today) but between her, Swinton, Paquin, Colman, Dunst, Olsen, and Oduye it was just a wonderfully rich year of career-high performances. It’s so difficult to choose, but I’m gonna go with Theron by a hair
