Were back for another round instead of calling it so and so should have won for.. I’m just gonna call the series of threads, sos and so at the Oscars. It makes more sense. So for Kate Winslet who took a while to finally imo an underwhelming oscar for The Reader which of her nominations would you award her, and are there any other times you would nominate her. I would give her the wins for Sense and Sense and Sensibility and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I would actually nominate her for Wonder Wheel as well because she was a force in that movie and also Revolutionary Road and I find it insane that she missed out on double noms that year when she got them everywhere else. So what do you all think?

I would’ve taken her win from THE READER and switched it out with a nom for REVOLUTIONARY ROAD.
I’d say she would’ve been worthy to win for SENSE and IRIS but I preferred Joan Allen and she was in a close race with Tomei for the latter.

May 14, 2020 at 9:02 pm #1203482096I agree with the consensus. She was so charismatic and great in Eternal Sunshine.
A win for Sense and Sensibility would have been fine although I also like Joan Allen that year. I never really got the appeal of Mira Sorvino’s performance. The voice sounded like a SNL character and kind of fake.
Sorvino’s win is very embarrassing.

I don’t believe Cruz was the runner up. I suspect Dench was. Only reason why I don’t consider Streep to be because the performance was comedic and they never take her seriously when she’s not being serious.

But also I would have give her the Oscar for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind first in lead She’s brilliant in it
Nominations for Heavenly Creatures (lead)
Sence and Sensibility (supp)
Titnic (lead)
Iris (supp)
Little Children (lead)
Revolucionary Road (lead)
Wonder Wheel (lead)May 14, 2020 at 9:24 pm #1203482121On my personal awards, I have her as the winner for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. She’s so charming in that movie.
I would’ve taken her win from The Reader and give her a nod for Revolutionary Road instead.
I probably would have given her an additional nom for Hamlet. That movie deserved so much more.

I also wanna mention Heavenly Creatures. Given how the Best Actress lineup that year was a HOT MESS, I would have given her a nod.

May 14, 2020 at 9:47 pm #1203482191She was amazing in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind but I don’t think she should’ve won that year. Imelda Staunton should’ve won for Vera Drake.
Regarding Kate, I would give her the win for Sense & Sensibility and for The Reader but in Supporting. That year I would have nominated her for Revolutionary Road as well, but my win would go to Anne Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married. I would have given her additional nods for Hamlet and Finding Neverland.
May 14, 2020 at 10:17 pm #1203482230Joan Allen kind of got screwed out of a win possibly by Oliver Stone. For some reason I remember Joan Collins on a talk show saying how Oliver Stone didn’t believe in sending out screeners and wanted people to see the film on the big screen. The problem was that Nixon didn’t play in London on time according to Collins. So presumably Allen lost any British votes she may have earned.
I haven’t seen Nixon yet but imo she was shamefully snubbed of a nomination for Pleasantville and should’ve won that year!!! I will never forgive the Academy for overlooking her…
ReplyCopy URLMay 14, 2020 at 10:21 pm #1203482238Her best role is Eternal Sunshine. But that year was tough.
I would give her Sense and Sensibility but I don’t think she would of had same career if she was a winner that young.
She would have won for Steve Jobs if a certain lead didn’t go into supporting. She should of had nomination for Quills too.
