I would have given her an oscar for Sense and Sensibility and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

ESotSM is just my favorite performance of hers, such and amazing and raw performance. Sad and touching but also really charismastic. So different from the usual oscar winning performance.

Titanic was an iconic performance but Judi Dench was my winner, would have replaced The Reader’s nom for a RR nom, and added additional noms for Heavenly Creatures and Quills.

I’d have nominated her for Sense and Sensibility and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, rewarding her for the latter.

I always wondered if she would of had been double nominee for The Reader supporting and lead Revolutionary Road , that she had chance of winning both Oscars . That would of made Oscar history. I know there was small chance. Of that ever happening.

I think she couldn’t win both, because they would pull the strings for a thing like that don’t happen with two scenarios: 1) kate winning lead and penelope supporting. 2) meryl winning lead and kate winning supporting. The former seems plausible to me.

If she had been nominated for both performances then your second scenario would’ve been the certain outcome. She swept the precursors for The Reader, while she only won at GG for Revolutionary Road.

Good point, it’s just that meryl streep in doubt don’t feel like a oscar winner performance winner to me. Maybe i’m just biased.

I will have to agree on this one. I saw Doubt and I enjoyed the movie, but I was shocked that Meryl Streep won SAG Lead Actress that year. I did not think and I am glad that she did not win for Doubt.

Well she won at SAG and tied at CC with Anne Hathaway. But like I said, Kate swept for The Reader in supporting, so I doubt voters would have voted for her in lead as well. I think lead would’ve been between Meryl and Anne, but I’ll give the edge to Meryl since Doubt was stronger than Rachel Getting Married in nominations.

I get that, but I didn’t walk out of the movie theater thinking that Doubt would be one to get Streep her third Oscar. Cherry Jones won a Tony Award for the stage performance of Doubt and sometimes I think that she would have have been better at that role than Merly Streep.

DOUBT ACTING NOMINATIONS AT THE TONY AWARDS
2005 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play (Cherry Jones) – WON
2005 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play (Adriane Lenox) – WON
2005 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play nomination (Brian F. O’Byrne) – NOMINATION
2005 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play nomination (Heather Goldenhersh) – NOMINATION

I didn’t think that about The Iron Lady either, but I thought that her performance in The Iron Lady was stronger than Doubt.

I see what you’re trying to say but I feel like you guys are still (slightly) biased. You can’t deny that the fact she won at SAG and CC. Either you like the performance or not she would’ve been the most likely winner if Winslet had won in supporting. Not to mention, at that time, her overdue narrative for a third Oscar was already starting to role.

Here’s where I currently stand on each of Kate Winslet’s 7 Oscar nominations:

Sense & Sensibility – I’ve only seen this movie once years ago, and I honestly don’t remember much regarding my own thoughts. I’ll need to re-watch it before giving my two cents on Kate’s performance. Plus, I still have not seen Mighty Aphrodite.

I recently re-watched Sense & Sensibility yesterday, and I really loved her performance in it. While the only other Best Supporting Actress nominee from 1995 I have seen (as of now) is Kathleen Quinlan in Apollo 13, I think I actually would give the Oscar to Kate Winslet.

I still think she won in the right year, but for the wrong performance. Personally, I love her performance in “Revolutionary Road” better…!
For me, she should have won for “The Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind” back in 2004/2005, but I can deal with her win for “The Reader” (in fact, the 2000’s was a nice decade concerning deserving Best Actress winners if you exclude Bullock)

All six of her nominations were deserved- I thought she was highly deserving for The Reader which isn’t a perfect film but Winslet is fantastic in the role.
