Based on a Novel by Jim Mitchell
    Directed by Martin Scorsese
Cast as of now:Leonardo DiCaprio,Robert De Niro
Synopsis:The book investigates a series of murders of wealthy Osage people that took place in Osage County, Oklahoma in the early 1920s—after big oil deposits were discovered beneath their land.[6][7] Officially, the count of the murdered full-blood wealthy Osage native Americans reaches at least 20, but Grann suspects that hundreds more may have been killed because of their ties to oil.[8] The book reports cattleman William Hale as the mastermind standing behind the murders and presents detailed evidence
    Shooting Begins this summer hopefully

BREAKING: Per @RichardRushfield the budget on Scorsese’s KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON has soared to $225M (not far off from The Irishman, mind you) & Paramount is getting nervous (even with Leo starring), and Marty wants to move it to Netflix (which doesn’t know how to say “no”).

so this might end up with Netflix after all lol

though I don’t see why Marty needs 225M for a period thriller piece when Tarantino re-created 1960s Hollywood with a stardom on par with this for only 100M. (unless there’s some de-aging VFX involved, which in that case sike..)

I’ll wager The Irishman is Scorsese’s best since Casino, and he hasn’t exactly had many bad films on his plate. And even a film that’s underwhelming by his rubric is usually pretty solid nonetheless.

Why the fuck is Scorsese making such expensive films now? Does he just not give a shit anymore? If Paramount actually agreed to finance both The Irishman and this film they would be bankrupt by now. And he’s never going to win major Oscars again with Netflix.

Jesus, what is going on with Scorsese’s budgets? Hugo was already massively overbudgeted, but at least that was a CG-heavy movie by design. The Irishman cost WAY too much and the overuse of CG/artificial lighting made that film look ugly, but at least that had a reason with the de-aging. What is his excuse for this? Can somebody tell Scorcese NO for once?

    For Your Consideration:

    Best Picture: Parasite

Hugo was a mess. The Irishman a chore, albeit a good one. Scorsese hasn’t exactly done well with these big budgets. This is flopping. If it goes with Netflix, then atleast no one can ‘officially’ call it a flop.

Same. Is he putting together an incredibly expensive cast or something? Have there been any cast announcements other than Leo and De Niro?

I’m struggling to understand why the movie needs such a huge budget. Is it because Scorsese doesn’t want to work with anyone else apart from De Niro and DiCaprio?? Is he again planning on using CGI to make the actors younger? Just use younger actors, it’ll be a lot better.

I’m also nervous that the movie is going to be really long again. Hopefully someone makes sure to cut the movie to a more 2-hour run. (If he’s really that pressed on a 3h+ movie, just release a director’s cut)

there's way too many movies that i haven't seen and i'm stressed

I have read book and it’s a great book. There is no reason for that budget. There really shouldn’t be much deaging needed for it. And half the cats is Native American so cast budget can’t be that big besides Leo and deniro. Another thing is should definitely be a limited series. So this will at least be as long as Irishman.
only thing I can imagine for budget is that they are rebuilding town  from scratch ?

That film’s length ruined its award chances.

The only thing I can think would cost so much is the actors. It either has to be their price tag or doing the de-aging process. I live in Oklahoma, and I can’t imagine why it’d be costing so much. I’m not naive about how much filming costs, but that amount seems crazy for this kind of movie. Especially when you include that things are cheaper in Oklahoma. They also get incentives/rebates or something like that.

I don’t want to bump this thread, but on imbd they changed the status from “pre-production” to “filming”.
Is it true or just an imbd user screwing around??

If I remember it right, the cinematographer said they would be ready to shoot in March but I think someone elsewhere said it would be later in the summer. Given the lack of updates around casting and the seemingly ballooning budget, I think it’ll be a while yet. It’s release date has been moved to 2021 on IMDB.
