Yeah that age gap was completely pointless. There are times when its accurate – for example in The Last Duel Jodie and Matt Damon have an age gap accurate to the real people they’re playing – but Mank is just egregious. The real Mankiewicz got married at 22 and they’re casting someone 30 years younger than Oldman as his wife?
Yeah, I did some research and the age gap for The Last Duel is accurate because Jean had a wife and young son who died because of the plague, and he married Marguerite after their deaths in the hopes she’d give him children.

She’s not close to the appropriate age at all – she’s 20 years younger than Joaquin and Josephine was older than Napoleon.

Actually Middleton was at the right age to play Mank‘s wife. Same with Tom Pelphrey as Joseph Mankiewicz.
The age difference is egregious because Oldman is a 63 year old man playing a 42 year old man.

The up-rise of Napoleon started in his early 30’s which is what the movie is based on. She would be playing someone in her mid 30’s which would be age appropriate.

Then they should have cast a more age appropriate co star. Fact is that even if she is only 8 or so years younger than the person she’s playing, she is two decades younger than Phoenix and unless they age him down it will be Middleton and Oldman all over again.

I see them aging him down which is a waste of time but Phoenix is the draw. Let’s just say Ridley has a different vision which will be a headache to historians.
ReplyCopy URLMay 6, 2021 at 1:57 am #1204244423Considering the real age of difference between Phoenix and Comer, she can perfectly play Marie-Louise of Austria, Napoleon’s second wife. And no one would blink but no, keep the Hollywood standards of actresses can’t age.

I would cast someone like Sam Claflin, I don’t know if he has the chops and someone like Catherine Zeta-Jones, Hilary Swank or Naomi Watts as Josephine

Dariusz Wolski will once again reteam with Scott for Kitbag, and he posted a picture of a private jet on his IG a day ago. He said he was off to Malta for some early scouting for Kitbag.

Ridley loves Malta. Some scenes of GLADIATOR filmed in Malta

They are aging JP down with CGI like The Irishman. GLADIATOR was hugely successful and it’s full of historical mistakes

How do you know they’re going to use CGI on him? Comer is talented, but she’s a terrible choice for the role. This isn’t meant as an insult, but she looks too childish next to Phoenix. He’s old enough to be her father. At least the age gap in The Last Duel is accurate because Jean was much more older than Marguerite, and she was his second wife. Marion Cotillard or another older actress would have been a better choice.

I don’t think childish is a fair description. She looks young because she is but describing young actresses as looking childish feels weird. You can say ‘she looks young enough to be his daughter’ without bringing the idea that she looks like a child into it.

My bad. I meant that she looks really young when comparing pictures of Phoenix alongside pictures of her. Didn’t mean any disrespect towards her.
