Kristen Stewart is officially set to play Princess Diana in an upcoming biopic titled Spencer.
Pablo Larraín, who famously directed 2016’s Jackie that earned Natalie Portman an Oscar nomination, will helm the project. Steven Knight wrote the screenplay for the film and it is currently being eyed to start production in early 2021.
According to reports, the plot of Spencer focuses on a particular weekend in the early 1990s during Christmas when Diana makes the decision to separate from her marriage to Prince Charles. Thoughts?

Not everyone watches or cares about The Crown

I doubt this film will get anywhere near as many viewers and as much love as The Crown.
ReplyCopy URLJune 17, 2020 at 1:57 pm #1203539083This is really bizarre casting, but the premise sounds great and Pablo at the helm is very promising. Jackie was brilliant, so maybe he’ll be able to get the same type of performance out of Stewart, even if she’s not on the same level as Portman.

ReplyCopy URLJune 17, 2020 at 2:23 pm #1203539189I don’t think Natalie and Kristen ever did similar roles for you all to compare them.
ReplyCopy URLJune 17, 2020 at 2:23 pm #1203539191Well, this devolved into anarchy at a much slower rate than I imagined.
I think this could be interesting. Stewart does tortured and introverted well, and folks tend to forget she has won a Cesar award and critics awards for Clouds of Sils Maria.
However, I’m in the Gold Derby minority in that I didn’t love Jackie, so I will be interested in how it turns out.

Exactly. She has been turning in acclaimed performances year after year. She has already established herself as one of the most talented actress of her generation so I’m not sure why some people are acting as if she still has to prove herself.

Because pretty much all of her well received performances are in small films that have went unseen by mainstream audiences, so they still associate her with the terrible Twilight films.
You could say the same thing about Robert Pattinson, but his films have gotten more attention than her’s, and the combination of his public hatred of Twilight and casting in future blockbusters like Tenet and Batman have helped him.
But hey, Stewart’s still doing a Hell of a lot better than Taylor Lautner. The guy went from Twilight to Adam Sandler movies. I’m not entirely sure if that’s moving up or moving down.
