I feel as though we’re giving the Razzies too much credit, seeing as how anyone can be a member upon giving up $40. In fact, you don’t even have to watch the films to nominate anything. But I digress; Twilight was over a decade ago. Stewart has won a Cesar Award, a BAFTA, and is a SAG nominee. She’s also gotten good reviews on smaller projects she’s been in. She seems dedicated to getting this performance correct and doing it justice and she seems to have the potential to do well. I feel like she has more going for her than against her. Not to mention the uncanny resemblance to Diana. Could we at least wait for more information of any kind before casting rather unfounded doubt?

I agree, I think Stewart has done best in, and seems to prefer, independent films. I think people are too harsh on her personally.

sally hawkins is on board in a supporting role, claire mathon will be doing the cinematography and jonny greenwood is composing. she’s coming for that oscar.

she looks the part… the accent on the other hand is gonna be a mess

I love her style of acting. So natural. But her natural style could be a problem. And the Oscars, for some weird reason, prefer overacting as hell

Kristen Stewart already became a trending topic on Twitter with this image. I can’t imagine the reception when the film is released hopefully this fall. She already showed she has the talent in Personal Shopper.

I like Stewart but her British accent was very poor in Snow White. I certainly hope that she does a much better job in 2021. I’m not asking for perfection or anything, just something more presentable.

Yeah the accent is going to be make or break – because it’s not just a British accent, it’s a very posh British accent and it’s very hard to make that sound natural, even for British people who don’t naturally speak that way. And she has to sound like Diana who did have a very recognisable voice.

Kristen is also a bit short to play Diana but I guess if they cast everyone else shorter than their RL counterpart as well it won’t be as noticeable. Presumably for The Crown they will do the opposite – although Dominic West, if he is playing Charles, is shorter than Elizabeth Debicki.

I am not ruling out that Stewart may end up pulling it off but this is such poor timing.

I want to give Stewart the benefit of the doubt and hope she’s improved in the almost 9 years since Snow White, I agree though, it’ll be the accent. If she nails that, then…

People are exaggerating the importance of accents to the industry…I mean can anyone with a straight face say that Zellweger sounded like Garland? And look who swept…she’s just one of many recent examples, what matters more is popularity of character and star power, both of which Stewart has going for her. Even under the same director, Portman’s accent wasn’t convincing to everyone. Maybe we should chill for the trailer…

    FYC:

Virginie Efira, Charlotte Rampling, Lambert Wilson, Benedetta (Actress, Supporting Actress, Supporting Actor)

Jim Broadbent, Helen Mirren, The Duke (Actor, Supporting Actress)

Yeah but there’s a difference between an American doing an American accent that doesn’t sound exactly like the person they’re portraying, and an American doing a British accent that doesn’t work. Even if she doesn’t sound exactly like Diana, she still has to speak in a good RP British accent.

I hope she uses an Australian accent to piss you all off.

I agree. Plus the way one carries oneself naturally as young millennial American is so different from how Diana, a young British Baby Boomer from British aristocratic lineage, would carry herself. This role will REALLY test and challenge Stewart in so many ways.

we went from “omg she does not ressemble diana at all.. MISCAST” to “omg she looks like diana but she won’t be able to do the accent”.

    we’re progressing!
