Damien Chazelle was the only American to win. This is by far the most international category.

Wish the academy would recognize better movies lol, getting tired of my picks from the nominees here matching up so much with my pick from the BP nominees. Gonna do personal picks both from the nominees and from my own list again:

2010: True Grit | Film Socialisme
2011: The Tree of Life | The Turin Horse
    2012: Amour | Tabu
2013: The Wolf of Wall Street | Norte, the End of History
2014: The Grand Budapest Hotel | Jauja
2015: Mad Max: Fury Road (also personal winner!)
2016: Manchester by the Sea | Things to Come
2017: Phantom Thread | Song to Song
2018: BlacKkKlansman | Ash Is Purest White
2019: The Irishman | The Wild Goose Lake
    2020: Mank | Days
2021: Drive My Car | Old

I hope you don’t mind me asking but considering you seem to be quite enthusiastic about Toni Erdmann, I was wondering where you would rank Maren Ade’s work that year in the directing category?

    FYC:

"The Good Fight", "The Other Two" and "Station Eleven" in all categories, Sarah Lancashire ("Julia"), William Jackson Harper ("Love Life") and Luke Kirby ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel")

Don’t mind at all haha. Probably somewhere in the 6-10 range! Some of the better comedic direction of recent memory, if you ask me.
