I saw Marriage Story at the Vancouver International Film Festival a month ago. The audience laughed at the mere first image of Laura Dern because I suppose that everyone has seen Big Little Lies. There was weird groaning at the first sight of Alan Alda, perhaps because he is old enough now that the average audience member does not know him.

Total opposite view of Alda at my viewing. There was a collective “ahhh” from the audience with his first screen appearance, like people didn’t realize he was in the film in the first place. Then it was like a wave of familiar grandfatherly nostalgia for Hawkeye and all his other roles that people remember so fondly. I also think some sympathy was mixed in there too in seeing his hand twitching. Absolutely the same reaction to Dern though. One guy even yelled out “RENATA!,” so yes, that role was on everyone’s minds with her.

Last is Downton Abbey. Don’t usually watch in theaters ’cause it’s expensive. I will wait only till available online or for download.

Saw A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood today, thought it was great. Tom Hanks deserves a Supporting Actor nomination. I love how weird the film was, the dream sequence felt like something out of a horror film in a strange way. And framing the whole movie has a Mr. Rogers episode was a creative choice, and provided for a great emotional gut punch at the end.

    Downton Abbey.

It was a clear Christmas special type of thing. There was no need for this to be an actual theatrically released film. It was for the fans. I’m a fan. So I was more than okay watching it and liked it very much. But yeah, it was just something along the lines of previous Christmas specials.

Congrats on making all that money. Can’t wait for the sequel. ‘Cause there’s obviously gonna be a sequel eventually.
