This was so much fun, until it wasn’t. I’d say the first 2/3 is an absolute blast, a fever dream that you cannot wake up from. The first 2/3 plays out like your typical Edgar Wright film. Flashy editing, great cinematography, fun set designs and fun music blasting in the background for you to bob your head to. It’s the movies  final 30 minutes that took me completely out. The film succeeds quite well at building the back story and setting up what is to come in the end.
Anya Taylor-Joy is an absolute joy (no pun) to watch on screen. She has the charisma to become a movie star, she’s perfect in this and it’s her best role next to Queens Gambit. McKenzie was okay as well as the rest of the supporting cast. No one left an impression quite like Joy though. She steals the entire movie.
Predicting Costume Design and Editing at best here. The movie is neither scary nor thrilling, but all in all a cinematic fun experience to be had in theaters if you can. The crafts here are amazing and the soundtrack is perfection. Wright really nails it here putting the audience back in the 60s, it’s completely hypnotic in that sense, just wished for a stronger or more original finale.

Lol, at people still thinking it has a chance at even 1 nomination. This film is DOA.

Pls if Anya’s Fans show up for this and it’s a box office success, it can definitely get in for lower level nominations like Costume Design, Editing,  Production Design, Score.

Im not sure on this.. Box Office Hit will be tough for Soho, especially after The Last Duel bombed.

They will have to face Dune on its second weekend and Halloween on third weekend (+Antlers, as fellow “arthouse” horror) plus they only have literally one week before Eternals arrived. Anya might be a draw and has a lot of stans/online stans, but we dont know whether it will translates to real life or not. Focus/Universal put a hell of marketing campaign, though so I hope this will draw GP Audience to see this.

$15-20 Million on Opening weekend will be miracle for the movie itself, given current circumstances

Not saying Soho will be a hit but it’s got a very different profile from The Last Duel. The Last Duel had zero pre hype and was a $100 million dollar studio film that flopped at the box office. Last Night in Soho has more pre hype (its twitter account’s followers are double that of Duel’s) and is for the lack of a better word a cheaper film.

Regardless of how Soho performs commercially I would be surprised if it had a Duel level box office response.

Indeed, but lets assume Duel spent $100 Million solely for Production. Soho allegedly has $43 Million estimated production budget (according to IMDBPro) and Their marketing for “Mid Budget” movies are insane. Billboard at LA and NY (Baby Driver also marketed this way anyway)

I think the studio is marketing this very well outside of one of the trailers they released where it shows entirely way too much. I think people will appeal to this way more than Last Duel. This has been hyped for months, unlike Duel. This appeals to anyone who loves Edgar Wright, cinephiles, horror movie fans, Thriller fans, Anya’s growing army of followers, etc. I don’t see Dune hurting this films chances at a decent run at the BO. With HBO releasing Dune on their platform, people will choose to watch that at home and go out and see SoHo since it isn’t streaming.

Not last duel being the standard for flops but I saw advertising for this movie 2 weeks before last duel was meant come out. it’s edgar wright, the kids love them some edgar, it’s 2 days before Halloween, timely movies do well evidently from Haloween kills and it’s a much easier movie to swallow than 2.5hr Medieval rape. I honestly think the baseline will be 15m opening and if I predict a drastic under it will be 10m. Can’t wait to watch.

If this is true… bad.. bad release strategy from Focus
