    She’s a very big role, but Gleeson is in almost every single scene and both her and Issac are very clearly secondary to his role.

    Yes, but the film centers much more around Gleeson.

    You could also say that the film centers just as much on Issac as it does on Vikander.

    In chamber pieces like this you could argue that all 3 of the prominent characters are the 3 leads, but in terms of awards categories I think since the story is told so completely from Dohmnall Gleason’s point of view and he’s in basically every scene, he feels like the true LEAD and the other 2 are secondary to him, as the above poster said. This is one of those cases were it feels sort of ok to call her the “female lead” but at the same I think her and Oscar Isaac are equally prominent and no one is arguing that he’s lead
