This thread is inspired by Sab227’s series on category placement.
Delroy Lindo is absolutely phenomenal in Da 5 Bloods. He deserves to win.
However, let’s settle this now: Will Lindo be nominated in lead or supporting?
Discuss.
ReplySeptember 7, 2020 at 8:14 pm #1203691891Netflix has Boseman and the Chicago 7 men to push in supporting. Their only real player in lead is Oldman. Also, Lindo’s role still reads more like a leading role to me, so I’m beating on that.

Besides, Netflix has enough contenders to fill the supporting category without him. It wouldn’t make sense.

Because unlike any of the Trial of the Chicago 7 players, whoever gets submitted from Mank (probably Tom Burke), and (RIP) Chadwick Boseman, he actually has a chance to win. Wheras Anthony Hopkins has already won Best Actor.

Tom Hanks last year, at least.

FYC: "Quo Vadis, Aida?" for Best International Feature because my friend liked it (I haven't seen it yet).

Frances McDormand/Kate Hudson – Almost Famous (Both billed before the main lead. Kate being the only one on the poster, u would think shes the main lead without watching the movie)
Holly Hunter – Thirteen
Julianne Moore – The Hours ( at least billed before Kidman)
Penelope Cruz – Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Christian Bale – The Big Short
Dev Patel – Lion
Jeff Bridges – Hell or High Water
Willem Dafoe – Florida Project (i think?)

Lindo is not supporting any other actor in the movie. The rest of the cast are supporting him, which makes him the lead and the rest supporting, by definition. He might well become yet another category fraud casualty, but he is the lead.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 8, 2020 at 3:59 am #1203692208I would say he’s Lead. Since I think his performance is one of the best this year so far, I say whichever category gets him the Academy Award works for me.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 8, 2020 at 8:11 am #1203692531I can’t shake the feeling he is going to be in supporting tbh. Should he be lead? Yes and he probably can win in that catagory. Will it be easier for him to get it if its in supporting? HELL YES and in a cakewalk. This kinda reminds me of Reese Witherspoon back in her Oscar year win. Undeniable and could win in either but will probs go for the easier route

I don’t think so, Hopkins has actor in his bag.

Oh I saw the ads for that when it was on Broadway. Looked really depressing.

Hopkins is supposed to be amazing, though.
