Time for another round of lead or supporting. This time we have the fantastic Melanie Laurent for her beautiful turn in Inglourious Basterds. I think shes a lead along with Pitt and Waltz but I’m curious to to hear what you all think. I would also add that I think it’s a horrendous crime that she didnt get a nomination because not only would I have nominated her in Lead Actress but I would also give her the win.May 19, 2020 at 9:21 am #1203489824
This is very interesting. I feel like, out of all the characters, Shoshanna/Emmanuelle had the most developed arc. But tbh I always saw Inglorious Basterds as (mostly) an ensemble movie and the characters being equally important for the development of the movie. So I would probably go with Supporting but Lead is just as plausible. I think it depends on your POV.May 19, 2020 at 10:11 am #1203489853
Ensemble movie, all supporting. She should have been nominated too.May 19, 2020 at 10:16 am #1203489860
I believe everyone is supporting in that film, but her and Waltz are the closest thing it has to leads. Still, my vote goes to supporting, where she should’ve been nominated.
Was Brad Pitt submitted as a lead? I wouldn’t put him there, but I can imagine that the studio did since he was the biggest name and billed first.May 19, 2020 at 11:26 am #1203490035
Yea I’m ok with her being supporting since it is such an ensemble movie, but I agree with above poster that Shoshanna definitely has the most developed arc, she’s the character that goes through the journey we generally associate with the protagonist. So even if she doesn’t have the most screen time, she sort of feels lead to me. And I would have given her a nomination in lead.May 19, 2020 at 2:19 pm #1203490426
I’d say she is the one lead of the film.

Lead, easily. She, along with Pitt and Waltz, are the cores of the narrative(s).May 19, 2020 at 2:55 pm #1203490465
I thought everybody in that movie was a supporting player.

Lead. Not much here to say.

Absolutely Lead, along with Pitt. One could also make a case for Waltz but I think his placement in Supporting still made the most sense out of those three. They are the main driving forces of the narrative, the whole thing is like a game of chess between three people who don’t even know about the other two players.
