Time for another round of lead or supporting. This time we have the fantastic Melanie Laurent for her beautiful turn in Inglourious Basterds. I think shes a lead along with Pitt and Waltz but I’m curious to to hear what you all think. I would also add that I think it’s a horrendous crime that she didnt get a nomination because not only would I have nominated her in Lead Actress but I would also give her the win.

But tbh I always saw Inglorious Basterds as (mostly) an ensemble movie and the characters being equally important for the development of the movie. So I would probably go with Supporting but Lead is just as plausible. I think it depends on your POV.

Was Brad Pitt submitted as a lead? I wouldn’t put him there, but I can imagine that the studio did since he was the biggest name and billed first.

So even if she doesn’t have the most screen time, she sort of feels lead to me. And I would have given her a nomination in lead.

One could also make a case for Waltz but I think his placement in Supporting still made the most sense out of those three. They are the main driving forces of the narrative, the whole thing is like a game of chess between three people who don’t even know about the other two players.
