Its time for another round of lead vs supporting. I remember hating The Master so much when it first came out but after a few years I gave it another watch and Realized what a fucking masterpiece this film is. I dont think I fully appreciated it when I watched it when I came out because I was only 16 when it came out but after growing up and maturing my taste in film I could see how beautiful this film truly was. The best part was Phillip Seymour Hoffman who was so unreal and mesmerizing as this charlatan selling Joaquin Phoenix lies and he kept my attention the most. He had such a huge presence in the film and I fully consider him a lead along with Joaquin and honestly after being able to see this movie for the brilliance that it is Hoffman should have won Lead Actor even over Daniel Day Lewis. So what do you all think?

He had 1:05:11 of screen time, 47.45% of the runtime of The master. That’s more than Hugh Jackman in Les misérables (58:18, 36.95%) who was nominated in lead. I always thought of him as supporting but you could totally make the case he’s a lead. And I would’ve voted for Joaquin Phoenix to win anyway, but PSH should definitely have won in supporting imo.

I would say he fits into Lead more than Supporting…and he was far and away the best person in that category. He should’ve won a second Oscar for this, especially since DiCaprio was shockingly snubbed.

Agreed this should have been his 2nd Oscar win
