Lead or Supporting No. 25: Jennifer Connelly in A Beautiful Mind

Time for another round of lead or supporting. This time we have the wonderful Jennifer Connelly for her role in a Beautiful Mind. She seeped a lot of the awards for supporting but there have been some people arguing saying shes a co lead with Russell Crowe and that was proven by the Lead Actress nomination she got from the SAGs. I personally think shes supporting, she is there just to help move along Crowes characters story. She wasn’t my personal pick that year either Maggie Smith would be my winner. What do you all think is she a co lead or Supporting?

Not a co-lead although if I recall well she does have her own separate scenes.

I haven’t seen this in years, nor do I care to, but as far as I recall Alicia dominates the second half of the film to the point that it’s just as much about her than about John Nash. I’ll go with co-lead.

ABSOLUTELY SUPPORTING. She’s *ALWAYS* supporting Crowe’s character and also does not have “lead screentime”. Her lead SAG nomination still baffles me.

She doesn’t appear at least after 1/3 of the movie but then she is a co-lead. She has some “solo” scenes without Crowe but still I consider her character supporting.

BTW she is amazing in the film and totally deserving of her win
