I think it makes sense to have another remake. Little Women gets remade in some capacity every 20-30 years. It’s like tradition now. It’s like going through 30 years without having a production of Gypsy on Broadway.
BTW, Gilliam Armstrong, director of the 1994 version, said she felt only two women could have played Marmie…Susan Sarandon and Meryl and was happy that Sarandon took the part. So now Streep gets to play Marmie even though she’s closer in age to Aunt March.
At first, I was iffy about seeing Emma Stone because I thought she would be playing Jo and I couldn’t deal with that, but then I realize it would make more sense for her to play Meg age wise. I can live with that.

Didn’t we just get a miniseries on PBS or something? I wasn’t really a fan of Lady Bird and thought Greta Gerwig was perhaps the most overrated person this award season. But the cast is CRAZY. Really glad Timotheé and Saoirse are working together again. They had great chemistry in Lady Bird. Excited to see Meryl and Timotheé together. Hopefully it’s actually good and not as overblown as LB.June 29, 2018 at 11:30 am #1202576569This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.June 29, 2018 at 11:37 am #1202576577
Here are my Oscar predictions for this film, based on what awards previous film adaptations have been nominated for:
-Best Director (Greta Gerwig)
-Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan)
-Best Adapted Screenplay
-Best Costume Design
-Best Original Score
-Best Production Design
Some of the other cast members are probably going to receive nominations at the minor award ceremonies, but given which roles have been rewarded at the Oscars for past adaptations, I can’t see them getting nominated there unless the REALLY stand out.June 29, 2018 at 11:37 am #1202576578
I am so excited for this solely because of Greta Gerwig. I don’t know if we need another Little Women but Lady Bird was fantastic and my favorite film of last year. Was so annoyed although no surprised that it didn’t win Picture, director, or screenplay. At least Phantom thread didn’t win.June 29, 2018 at 11:43 am #1202576585
I’m definitely interested in this given how impressive the cast is.
I also read that Eliza Scanlen, who’s the young lead in the upcoming HBO limited series ‘Sharp Objects’, is testing for the role of Beth.June 29, 2018 at 11:46 am #1202576590This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.
