Not sure why some of y’all are so high on Gerwig’s chances for a Director nom. (Besides ASIB underperformance in nominations on other categories aka Editing) If Bradley Cooper could miss Director for a 3rd remake of ASIB, even with the box office and acclaim, and a good track record with the academy on getting nominated, Gerwig’s chances of being nominated in director for a 9th remake of a film is gonna be worse than his, and her film isn’t going to be a bigger box office hit than bradley’s ASIB.August 13, 2019 at 3:26 pm #1203022455
Love all the filmbros coming out of the woodwork to deride this… and based on what? Because you didn’t like a woman gaining a whole bunch of awards attention for an awards-magnet a couple years back? Hate to break it to you, but that’s the same story for your favorite directors, too. Stay angry that Gerwig got her first director nomination at the same time Nolan did, and that she’s better than he’ll ever be.
I agree with all of this, except for your random Christopher Nolan bashing. Gerwig’s a great director, but she’s nowhere near Nolan’s level. As much as I love Lady Bird, the opening scene of The Dark Knight is better than Lady Bird in its entirety.August 13, 2019 at 4:11 pm #1203022568
What makes this look so fresh and fun is how anachronistic it looks. Timothee feeling modern might actually be a good thing. This has become a super strong year for comedies between this, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, JoJo Rabbit, and The Farewell.
Yet at the Globes, Little Women will probably be Drama and The Farewell, foreign language.
That is the truth.

I have a gut feeling Timothee could get in supporting actor. Swoon-worthy romantic lead is how people like their Chalamet, I think gritty drug addict didn’t appeal to people as much.August 13, 2019 at 4:22 pm #1203022597
Looks very good! I think this will one of the huge juggernauts this year, probably about 8-9 nominations, depending on how will this does in the above-the-line categories. It’s definitely a lock for most of the technical categories though.
My predictions are
Best Supporting Actress (for Pugh probably)
Best Original Score
Best Production Design
Best Costume Design
Best Makeup and Hairstyling

Can’t wait to slap myself in the face repetitively each time Saoirse Ronan is robbed at an awards ceremony, it’s gonna be great.August 13, 2019 at 7:38 pm #1203022864
Finally saw the trailer. welp thats coming for everything not nailed down. I hope screeners are out in time!August 13, 2019 at 8:05 pm #1203022892

I doubt it, Supporting actor will be packed and Little Women is not going to be a big contender. Saoirse is the film’s best bet.August 13, 2019 at 8:19 pm #1203022911
I find it funny that none of the sisters are American. Saoirse Ronan is Irish, Emma Watson and Florence Pugh are British, and Eliza Scanlen is Australian.August 14, 2019 at 5:28 am #1203023259
I hope they don’t waste a slot on the perpetual bridesmaid. We all know she doesn’t have a chance in hell to win.August 14, 2019 at 5:48 am #1203023268

While I agree that Chalamet isn’t getting in, I believe Little Women will be a pretty big contender. I think Chalamet playing the swoon worthy love interest will hurt him, because that kind of role doesn’t seem to get much Oscar love. The early criticism leveled at his performance also doesn’t help. A lot can change about a film in the editing room, but performances don’t.
