The trailer looks great. Has me even more excited for this film. Ronan already seems like she’s given a wonderful performance. I’m really hoping this is her year. The only negative is that based on what I’ve seen, I can understand why Chalamet has been called miscast for this movie. Some of his acting here make him look a bit too modern when compared his costars. That’s not the worst thing in the world, but it did feel a little distracting here. I’ll give credit to Emma Watson. This trailer didn’t exactly show too much of her, but she looked good from what I saw. I was worried she was going to be the weak link in an otherwise strong cast. Probably because I hated her most recent performance in Beauty and the Beast.
Based on what I’ve what I’ve heard and seen, I expect nominations in the following categories:
Best supporting actress (for Florence Pugh, based on her being called the supporting cast’s MVP)
Best adapted screenplay
And possibly some tech categories such as editing, art direction, and costumesAugust 13, 2019 at 3:01 pm #1203022414
No Louis Garrel in this trailer is a bummerAugust 13, 2019 at 3:15 pm #1203022440
Not sure why some of y’all are so high on Gerwig’s chances for a Director nom. (Besides ASIB underperformance in nominations on other categories aka Editing) If Bradley Cooper could miss Director for a 3rd remake of ASIB, even with the box office and acclaim, and a good track record with the academy on getting nominated, Gerwig’s chances of being nominated in director for a 9th remake of a film is gonna be worse than his, and her film isn’t going to be a bigger box office hit than bradley’s ASIB.August 13, 2019 at 3:26 pm #1203022455
Love all the filmbros coming out of the woodwork to deride this… and based on what? Because you didn’t like a woman gaining a whole bunch of awards attention for an awards-magnet a couple years back? Hate to break it to you, but that’s the same story for your favorite directors, too. Stay angry that Gerwig got her first director nomination at the same time Nolan did, and that she’s better than he’ll ever be.
I agree with all of this, except for your random Christopher Nolan bashing. Gerwig’s a great director, but she’s nowhere near Nolan’s level. As much as I love Lady Bird, the opening scene of The Dark Knight is better than Lady Bird in its entirety.August 13, 2019 at 3:50 pm #1203022506
What makes this look so fresh and fun is how anachronistic it looks. Timothee feeling modern might actually be a good thing.
This has become a super strong year for comedies between this, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, JoJo Rabbit, and The Farewell.August 13, 2019 at 4:11 pm #1203022568

Yet at the Globes, Little Women will probably be Drama and The Farewell, foreign language.August 13, 2019 at 4:20 pm #1203022595
I have a gut feeling Timothee could get in supporting actor. Swoon-worthy romantic lead is how people like their Chalamet, I think gritty drug addict didn’t appeal to people as much.August 13, 2019 at 4:22 pm #1203022597
Looks very good! I think this will one of the huge juggernauts this year, probably about 8-9 nominations, depending on how will this does in the above-the-line categories. It’s definitely a lock for most of the technical categories though.
My predictions are
Best Supporting Actress (for Pugh probably)
Best Original Score
Best Production Design
Best Costume Design
Best Makeup and HairstylingAugust 13, 2019 at 6:22 pm #1203022786
Can’t wait to slap myself in the face repetitively each time Saoirse Ronan is robbed at an awards ceremony, it’s gonna be great.August 13, 2019 at 7:38 pm #1203022864

I doubt it, Supporting actor will be packed and Little Women is not going to be a big contender. Saoirse is the film’s best bet.
