I think the order you listed those names is probably the order of most likely to least to be nominated, while Gerwig is still above them all. Not gonna happen though.

I’d guess that the movie’s getting in for Actress, Adapted Screenplay, Costume Design and Score, maybe Production Design and Supporting Actress. Saoirse Ronan got in when the movie was largely ignored over Lupita Nyong’o and other contenders so I think she’s still in the race.

It’s going to get a costume design nomination. And Desplat is always a threat for a nod.

F**k, what is happening?! No nods from Costume Guild and SAG? I thought this could get nominated even for Best Cast.

People are bothering to watch the screeners of it because literally no one asked for another Little Women movie.
At this point it might only get an Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination.

And probably score. Dedplait can sleepwalk through a score and still get in. But that’s it I think. Even Bombshell will have more nominations.

The fall of this movie is pretty shocking. I know it’s a remake that no one asked for the reviews and the cast made this seem like a contender. I never had it higher than 8th because something felt off about it but didnt expect it to completely fall on it’s face like this.

I told y’all Ronan wasn’t happening unless she starts switching it up.

    For now I’ll predict Ronan.

I’m still confused as to why this is being so shut out. Yeah it’s a remake, but I’ve heard nothing but good things from everyone who has watched it so far. I’ll predict Ronan for now, but unless something happens, I might have to move it out of BP. I can see it getting almost completely snubbed honestly.

Yeah, I’d really like to know how this film fell apart so spectacularly this awards season. Sure it is a remake that’s been done so many times, but it also seems like a great film that was well loved by critics, with a higher score than over half of this year’s Best Picture locks (1917, OUATIH, Jojo Rabbit, and Joker). Plus Gerwig and Ronan are obviously well liked by the academy, Lady Bird was a huge hit, and Pugh seemed on the verge of a huge awards breakthrough. And with all of the whining that female directors don’t get enough respect, this could have been the best way to honor one. I guess Lulu Wang still has The Farewell as a potential contender, but that film’s Oscar potential maxes out at like 5 nominations, while this film could have gone way higher.

I don’t really think any of the sisters could’ve been nominated for Supporting… Little Women might as well be called Jo and Her Sisters. It’s just not about the others. Granted, this remake allegedly makes better use of the sisters, but the ubiquitous preconceived notion is that Little Women is a solo-rider vehicle, so Pugh was fighting an uphill battle off the jump.

Actually, if you’d seen the film, there is no “allegedly” about it, and while all the previous versions have indeed been top-heavy towards Jo, the revelation (one of many in this fantastic version of the story) is that it is far more balanced in both the characterizations and in the various story threads of the March sisters. The film ultimately resolves around Jo but the other sisters never feel subservient to her arc.

I really think this will get the same treatment as Phantom Thread. Unferperforming at the Globes, completely shut out from SAG and all of a sudden 6 nominations for the Oscars.

Funny how nobody ever complained that “Lady Gaga’s A STAR IS BORN is a remake that nobody asked for” and that film had only a fraction of the smarts and innovative approach to the source material that Gerwig’s film does. I’m very comfortable saying that hers is likely the definitive adaptation of the book, which means it actually is the LITTLE WOMEN that everyone should have been waiting for. But the writing appears to be on the wall and while I’d argue that Gerwig definitely deserves one of the 5 director slots (among the major contenders that have been hovering over the category), there are any number of mediocre missteps that are likely to get in instead. And so it goes…
