The only performance in that category surperior to Paltrow’s was Montenegro, but I’m a minority on this one. I do legitemately think Dench was the best in her category tho.

You’re definitely not in a minority. Fernanda Montenegro should’ve won that year, and it’s not really close. There’s a huge amount that thinks Fernanda should’ve won. Most of those, who say Blanchett was robbed, probably didn’t even watch Central Station. And at the end of the day, she’s a very well known actress and loved. So that’s also why so many say she should’ve won.

Anyway, Paltrow was absolutely horrible imo and was by far the weakest of the line up.

Lynn Redgrave was just mind bending in Gods and Monsters. Anyone who hasn’t seen that yet should watch it.

I must admit I haven’t seen Central Station and again I love Shakespeare in Love but both Blanchett and Watson were superior to Paltrow.

The only person in recent history who has a worse win is Renee Zellweger for Cold Mountain. At least she redeemed herself by winning for Judy though.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", AMANDA SEYFRIED FOR "MANK", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

Well I’m in the minority because I think Paltrow was very good and I think she’s 2nd in that lineup.

In that regard, you’re definitely in the minority.

The discussion on whether Paltrow or Blanchett were better led for years when the other 3 nominees were far better.

Meryl was easily the least interesting nomination lineup lol.

Dame Judi Dench is that Bish.

    She deserves her Oscar.

Queen Dench definitely deserves a lead Oscar to go with her supporting one. She might even have been a 3x Oscar winner if she had been in movies earlier in her career. US audiences didn’t really know about her until Mrs. Brown as she had mostly done theatre. She is a bit unlucky in with two of her lead nominations she was up against undeniable front runners (Mirren in 2006 and Blanchett in 2013). It’s a shame her 2005 and 2006 performances weren’t released the other way around – i.e. if Notes on a Scandal had come out in 2005 she could have beaten Witherspoon.

Dench gave the best performance of Queen Elizabeth I that year. Not sure if she deserved the Oscar, but I’m so used to her being an Oscar winner with it.

Love Blanchett but that whole movie is stupid and she wasn’t that great in it. She just spoke with command most of the time.
