She absolutely deserved to win the Leading Actress Oscar that year but not for The Reader. She should have won and swept for Revolutionary Road.

I thought she was fine in THE READER but I also agree that had the win been for REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, it would’ve been far more deserved.

In my book, she would’ve battled Anne Hathaway for RACHEL GETTING MARRIED and then the snubbed Sally Hawkins and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Should have won for Revolutionary Road; an amazing performance in a good film.

A very deserved win. She was phenomenal, and Stephen Daldry deserved that Best Director nomination.

By the way, what do you all think? Was it lead or supporting?

    I strongly think it’s a lead performance.

The performance is fine but not win worthy.

Haven’t seen Revolutionary Road so I dunno if Winslet was better in that, but just taking her performance in The Reader by itself, it’s fantastic — definitely Oscar-worthy. Though I think they should’ve nominated her in supporting. But I understand peoples confusion with the category placement because shes one of those cases like JLaw in SLP and Viola Davis in Fences who can be argued either way. I feel if they had campaigned the kid in lead (which he was), then she wouldnt have had any trouble getting nominated and winning in Supporting.

    Passing (Negga)
The Power of the Dog (Pic, Campion, Cumberbatch, Dunst, Smit-McPhee, Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing)
    tick, tick, Boom! (Garfield)
West Side Story (Pic, Spielberg, Zegler, DeBose, Moreno, Faist, Screenplay, Cinematography, Costume, Editing, Production Design, Sound)

Fine performance in a mediocre movie. When the Oscar host has a whole musical number based on how no one saw the movie that says a lot.

    LOVE!

It’s the year that she should have won BOTH Supporting and Lead Actress just like the Golden Globes
