Loathe. All I see is Joaquin acting on screen. His mannerisms and actions are too deliberate and noticeable.

Michelle (Yeoh, Williams) Oscar campaign manager.

I’ve unfortunately loathed more of Joaquin’s performances as of late than loved, and that includes both Joker and The Master. I just find the recent moody brooding man schtick to be such a crutch for him and it’s always distracting and uninteresting to me.

I don’t see how that description fits his role in The Master to be honest. Joker I’ll grant because his work there feels like a less inspired, more clichéd variation of similar acting tics.

I can understand liking other performances of his much more, and I can understand loathing The Joker, but I don’t really understand loathing Joaquin Phoenix‘s performance in The Joker. (This is sort of how I feel about Carey Mulligan in Promising Young Woman— even if you have very serious problems with either of these films, I just don’t understand loathing either performance.)

He was deserving but Adam Driver gave the superior performance of all nominees, sorry.

Adam Driver wasn’t even the second best that year, he stole the last spot to Taron Edgerton, sorry

If someone stole Taron’s spot, it was Jonathan Pryce

Loathe. He gave far better performances in Gladiator and The Master.

He definitely didn’t deserve to win. The best performance of that year wasn’t even nominated. Adam Sandler should have been nominated and should have won.

    Lol

It’s not a bad performance, but I would rank him dead last in his category. At the same time, I’m happy that Phoenix is an Oscar-winner.

    1. Adam Driver
    2. Jonathan Pryce
    3. Leonardo DiCaprio
    4. Antonio Banderas
    5. Joaquin Phoenix

    FYC 2022 Emmys:

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Kim Joo-ryoung in "Squid Game"

Darling, Overacting Clown was miles better in Her (a performance that should’ve nab him the Oscar). This is more like a career win in an overrated movie.

Boy, the year Parasite won also has some of the most underwhelming acting winners and nominees of the decade.

    FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All At Once
    Tang Wei, Decision To Leave
    Rebecca Hall, Resurrection

James Hong & Jamie Lee Curtis, Everything Everywhere All At Once
