Loathe. All I see is Joaquin acting on screen. His mannerisms and actions are too deliberate and noticeable.

I’ve unfortunately loathed more of Joaquin’s performances as of late than loved, and that includes both Joker and The Master. I just find the recent moody brooding man schtick to be such a crutch for him and it’s always distracting and uninteresting to me.
I don’t see how that description fits his role in The Master to be honest. Joker I’ll grant because his work there feels like a less inspired, more clichéd variation of similar acting tics.July 31, 2021 at 5:33 am #1204373187
Love. 100% deserving of his Oscar!July 31, 2021 at 5:05 pm #1204374280
Neither, more boring than anything hahaAugust 14, 2021 at 7:12 am #1204396603
I can understand liking other performances of his much more, and I can understand loathing The Joker, but I don’t really understand loathing Joaquin Phoenix‘s performance in The Joker. (This is sort of how I feel about Carey Mulligan in Promising Young Woman— even if you have very serious problems with either of these films, I just don’t understand loathing either performance.)August 14, 2021 at 8:37 am #1204396707This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.August 14, 2021 at 11:39 am #1204396883
He deserved the win huns but Ledger remains superior.August 14, 2021 at 1:50 pm #1204397018
He was deserving but Adam Driver gave the superior performance of all nominees, sorry.

It’s not a bad performance, but I would rank him dead last in his category. At the same time, I’m happy that Phoenix is an Oscar-winner.
1. Adam Driver
2. Jonathan Pryce
3. Leonardo DiCaprio
4. Antonio Banderas
5. Joaquin Phoenix

Darling, Overacting Clown was miles better in Her (a performance that should’ve nab him the Oscar). This is more like a career win in an overrated movie.
Boy, the year Parasite won also has some of the most underwhelming acting winners and nominees of the decade.
