Julianne Moore was fantastic, but Rosamund Pike delivered an absolutely perfect and iconic performance that is still frequently discussed and cherished to this day. In that line-up I also preferred Marion Cotillard in Two Days, One Night and Reese Witherspoon in Wild.

I loath the win, but not the performance.

I voted LOVE but I agree with the consensus that Pike and especially Cotillard were better in my book.

Cotillard should already be a two-time Oscar winner.

I loved her performance and I was glad when she won.

    I voted love.

The year before she won, my Dad died due to rapidly progressive Alzheimer’s disease, which he’d had for (at least) six years before.  Julianne Moore’s performance was a pitch perfect version of what my Dad went through, and so I felt she was deserving for managing to pull that off.

I should add that my personal experience as detailed above probably cliffs my judgment a bit, and I’m probably not as objective as everyone else on this board with regards to this performance.

Her win should have come with Far From Heaven or Safe or Boogie Nights, damn sure not The Hours (Catherine and Meryl were easily the best in the supporting category that year, and Kidman’s portion is the only thing about The Hours that kinda worked). As far as her win for Still Alice, it’s not hate worthy. And she was overdue for a win. It’s a very good performance in a very basic movie. Cotillard is probably my winner out of that lineup. I’m one of those people who don’t think too highly of Pike’s performance.
