-S.J. Clarkson is on board to direct the pic. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless penned the screenplay, with Kerem Sanga also penning a previous draft.
-In the comics, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis and thus was connected to a life-support system that looked like a spider web. Due to her age and medical condition, Madame Web never actively fought any villains. For that reason, sources have stressed it’s possible the project could turn into something else. Insiders say due to her psychic sensory powers, she is essentially Sony’s version of Doctor Strange. It is unknown who Sweeney will be playing in the film.
-Not only is Sweeney on one of the hottest shows of the year in Euphoria (HBO recently announced it is the network’s second most-viewed show behind only Game of Thrones), she clearly came away as one of the big winners from this season and has quickly jumped to the top of every major studio lists for young rising stars. Sources say Sweeney had been weighing several offers in recent weeks, but the opportunity to join Johnson in what would be the first female-centric film in this universe was too good to pass up.

Interesting how the focus is mainly on Sweeny and squat about Dakota.In fairness, the February 3rd articles focused on Dakota when her casting was first announced while yesterday’s articles published about 6 weeks later announcing Sweeney’s casting focus on Sweeney. I, too, have seen less than 10 seconds of Euphoria. I had thought Johnson was somewhat surprisingly good in TLD and was hoping it would lead to more interesting roles for her in strong indie films.

Although the information is not necessarily false, there are two Marvel characters that have used the alias of “Madame Web“. One called Cassandra Webb (the elderly woman the article talks about), she is mainly an assisting force to Peter Parker/Jessica Drew so I doubt the movie will be about her.
With the Fox and Marvel universes getting closer and closer I think that the “Madame Web” in this film will be Julia Carpenter, a woman in her 30s that not only is the current holder of the alias but was previously known as “Spider-Woman“. With vast source material to draw from, she has been an Avenger and has some ties with most of the characters that appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
ReplyCopy URLHaven’t seen Venom 1 on its entirety, but the sequel is a very good dumb fun while not necessarily being a good movie. Heard bad things about Morbius. Sony seems to lost its grip on its marvel projects if someone named Kevin Feige isn’t involved.
My wild bet is Sweeney would be playing Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, which is interesting since Black Cat is one of Spider-Man’s love interest and that means two on-screen Tom Holland’s love interest are played by actors from Euphoria.

That makes sense, Sony wants to create a ‘Spiderverse’ franchise so it would be very logical to introduce Felicia Hardy and there is a storyline where both Madame Web and Black Cat assist Doctor Strange in rescuing Peter Parker. Sweeney could also be playing Gwen Stacy as Ghost-Spider.
Recently it has been hinted that Jaden Smith could be playing Miles Morales. It seems like Sony is going all out and taking control of all the Spider-Man characters.
