ScarJo is long overdue for a nomination. She’s an underrated actress who should have already been nominated for Lost in Translation and Under the Skin.

She looks good in this teaser trailer and her competition is soooooo soft. Let her get the overdue nomination, please

Taron Egerton (Rocketman) for best actor. Charlize Theron looks great in Bombshell teaser

That was fine, I guess? More interested in what Adam Driver does here, and I’m not seeing where Scarlett’s unassailable frontrunner status is coming from yet. The dual trailers gimmick was cool though. I wouldn’t mind seeing other films use this marketing trick.

Scarlett will probably get a nom because the category is weak this year

it’s more than weak. It’s simply empty

Loved this teaser, and it really is a teaser because it barely shows what reportedly the bulk of the movie is about which is the court case, which is probably why Driver looks more competitive than ScarJo. I read that she has an outstanding monologue where the camera doesn’t cut away from her for five minutes, so on paper she still could have the baitier part.

No. She’ll get a nomination because the film, and herself, will be raved, it’ll probably be top 3 BP, and will see nominations in screenplay, actor, supporting actress and maybe even director and supporting actor to go along with BP. The sooner people realize Johansson is not only happening, but she’s actually contending for a win, the easier it’ll be for them to accept it when it happens lol.

I’ve been very exited to see this film ever since it started getting a bunch of buzz and the trailers are making it look great. The lead performances especially look phenomenal! If nothing else, Adam Driver looks like he could win this year and ScarJo will probably get her first nomination. I’m pretty sure it will be nominated for Director, Original Screenplay, and Supporting Actress as well. Hopefully the academy’s Netflix bias has cooled down enough to let 2 films into Picture, otherwise this film’s not getting in over The Irishman.

Johansson may very well win the Oscar. Huge year for her. To people who say she doesn’t do much in teasers: i have heard she has 5 minute long, one take with camera on her face court-room monologue scene. It’s very baity role and emotional role. I’m not saying she is lock for the win or anything but the film is playing all festivals, it’s gonna get like 90 on metacritic (advanced buzz on the movie is great) and Netflix will push this hard like they did with Roma. It’s basically this year Manchester by the Sea. but there isnt Moonlight or LLL in race this time.

I’ve heard comparisons to Kramer vs Kramer from someone who’s seen it.

Actually I’m talking about how well the movie will do during award season. But yeah, all are critically acclaimed break-up story type of movies, but Kramer vs. Kramer was the strongest during its award season run, followed by Manchester by the sea and the weakest was Blue valentine. Not sure which movie Marriage story will fall into, it all depends on the state of the race.

The role looks basic. She might be win but it won’t be for that court room scene. It’ll be for the same reasons Sandra Bullock won.

Jesus. This is such a bad take on so many levels. Yikes.

Maybe I just need to watch them again, but those teasers were pretty underwhelming. Cool concept though with the dual teasers. ScarJo looks good though, albeit I can never get behind the Driver hype for some reason (I blame Star Wars lol). Kramer v. Kramer looks like the appropriate comparison.

I feel like Scarlett Johansson is simultaneously being overestimated and underestimated on this forum. You should never call a performance a lock until you’ve seen it for yourself. It’s currently making me think of how so many people on here were originally convinced that Liam Neeson was gonna win for Silence, or Michelle Pfeiffer was gonna win for Mother. Don’t claim someone’s got in in the bag until all the competition is known. On the underestimating side, too many people are claiming that she’s either not going to get in, or she’ll only be a coattail nomination, despite the fact that early word is she gives a great performance in a possible major contender. As someone who hasn’t seen the film, I currently believe she’ll be nominated. If her role is baity and she delivers, a win could definitely happen.

she’s overestimated because they called her a lock without seeing the movie? Isn’t that the case with Saoirse Ronan? I guess that’s not an issue with Ronan cos she’s everyone’s darling here
