Johansson will be in two BP nominees this year (this and Jojo Rabbit) and the stars haven’t aligned for her this much since 2003, which makes it hard to judge that voters “don’t like her” or something when there hasn’t been this opportune of a moment. I still think Erivo’s ahead of her but if Harriet flops I can certainly see ScarJo as a nice fallback options for voters to crown (so long as she can keep her foot out of her mouth).

Not Jojo RabbitAvengers: Endgame. I’ve heard mixed buzz for Jojo Rabbit.

Oscars 2020: I stan Joaquin Phoenix, Willem Dafoe, Alan Silvestri, and Dean Deblois.

Emmys 2020: I stan Logan Lerman, Olivia Colman, and David Harbour.

Tom Hanks and Amy Adams stan in general.

So the actor musical comedy globe will be extremely crowded this year while the drama one is Antonio Banderas’s to lose?

Endgame is not getting a BP nomination. It isn’t good, it isn’t baity, it isn’t innovative, so all it has going for it is money. Scarjo’s best and only bet is Marriage Story (her role in Jojo Rabbit is reportedly pretty small)

These teasers make me sad. Considering the director I was hoping this would be more of a throwback to The War of the Roses, but on the surface it seems to be  a conventional drama. Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint

    FYC:

Antonio Banderas and Asier Etxeandia, Dolor y Gloria (Best Actor/Supporting Actor)
Emily Beecham, Little Joe (Best Actress)
Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, The Good Liar (Best Actor/Actress)

“Frances Ha” was HUGE at the film club at my university. In our annual poll Gerwig even won Best Actress over Cate Blanchett in “Blue Jasmine” (I liked Gerwig just fine in that movie but let’s be real…). It captured some kind of moment with just starting your adult life and not really finding your place in the world yet. It was endearing. I surely recognized features of my colleagues (female ones) in the characters on screen. That was quite something at the time but I guess it would be different if I’d see the film now or in my teens.

Marriage Story bp nomination almost on lock????

@IntFilmCritique: Noah Baumbach’s #MarriageStory is his strongest and most resonant movie yet. A mesmerising, messy and heartbreaking film about the dissolve of a marriage. Every single actor involved is outstanding. But this is Scarlett Johansson’s chef-d’œuvre. Astonishing!

@phillipstribune: World premiere at Venice: MARRIAGE STORY is a knockout. Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson marvelous in Noah Baumbach’s fully felt chronicle of a long-distance breakup and the child in the middle. Plus Driver performs a tip-top rendition of Sondheim’s “Being Alive.” #Venezia76

In such a weak year I didn’t doubt she’d be happening, but with such review I wouldn’t be surprised if she ended up winning. Judy looks like a flop, and Theron’s performance might not be much further than the make-up. But for now I’m gonna enjoy the fact that this is gonna be a ScarJo-featured awards season.

I may be in the minority, but I stopped taking Judy seriously as an awards contender once that full-length trailer dropped.

If the movie ends up being as great as the reviews say, maybe ScarJo will win. I’m just waiting for the full-length trailer to see and decide if I’m taking Zellweger out of the first place.

P.S.: It’s probably the least interesting category of the season.

Well, I didn’t expect it to be good or anything lol, just Renée looks super baity and she could manage to get nominated regardless. The HFPA will eat her up, that’s what I’m sure of.

Yeah, that’s definitely a huge possibility.

Theron has big lengthy monologues just like Scarjo. How is it going to be just makeup?
