I’ve been looking for the Mary Poppins Returns official thread here at Gold Derby and I just couldn’t find it for some reason because its odd that no one has made a thread for it yet. Kindly post the link of the original thread and I’ll be glad to delete this thread I made.
Anyway, Entertainment Weekly just released some exclusive photos from the film and I must admit, it made me look forward to what Rob Marshall and company are toying for this sequel.
Marshall brought back his creative team behind his past films: DP Dion Beebe, Production Designer John Myhre, Editor Wyatt Smithh (Nine, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Into the Woods), David Magee (Life of Pi, Finding Neverland) wrote the screenplay so it somehow gave me hope with the quality of the script. But one interesting point is that the great Colleen Atwood won’t be returning as costume designer from Marshall creative team since Chicago. We then instead have the equally great Sandy Powell, first time to be working with Marshall in his film.
Emily Blunt stars as the new Mary Poppins in what would be a locked Golden Globes nomination for Lead Actress in a Musical at the very least. Here are some of the exclusive production photos:June 13, 2017 at 10:25 am #1202119702
It’s being released in 2018June 13, 2017 at 4:12 pm #1202119970
The only thing I’ve noticed is that Mary Poppins is smiling too much.June 14, 2017 at 12:13 pm #1202121067
I know pictures don’t ever do movies justice, but this just doesn’t look like it’ll have the kind of magic the original Mary Poppins has. I love Emily Blunt, but there’s only one Mary Poppins, and that’s Julie Andrews.September 17, 2018 at 6:20 am #1202633790
IT LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!September 17, 2018 at 6:44 am #1202633805
Looks nice. The release date will allow for millions and millions of dollars even if reviews aren’t great.
Seems like at least Costume Design is locked. Those thinking they had a shot are close to being fucked. Production Design too, maybe.
I can’t tell about any other category with this trailer.
The film and Blunt are locked for the Globes but A Star is Born is just gonna sweep that category anyway.September 17, 2018 at 6:53 am #1202633812
Emily Blunt can get into the Oscar race if reviews are good.September 17, 2018 at 7:00 am #1202633816
didnt feel all that impressed by the trailer (not that my opinion matters, Im sure it will make mucho $$$)September 17, 2018 at 7:37 am #1202633852
This looks sooo good. Blunt looks perfect and I could easily see her getting nominated at the Oscars if the reviews are there. We already know this is going to make a massive amount of money. Plus if the rumor that A Star Is Born is going Drama at the Globes, I don’t see why Blunt (who’s won a Globe before) wouldn’t win for playing Mary Poppins. If she does win the Globe she’d definitely be in the conversation for a nomination.

I doubt ASIB will be submitted for drama. It’s by default a musical. Though I definitely expect GG noms for Blunt and Miranda in Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor for Comedy/Musical. It makes sense.

It’s by default a musical.
Except it’s not. It’s a film about musicians that contains songs when they perform, like Get on Up which went Drama a few years ago or Empire on the TV side. I don’t expect it to do this – just pointing out the rumour and that it definitely could do so.September 17, 2018 at 8:45 am #1202633902
Ugh……I don’t see anything related to those huge Oscars nominations coming from this movie.
