New trailer is bananas! Okay, this makes up for that last awful one. Wow.

    She slightly eclipsed Saoirse IMO

All critics were saying the opposite from what I read, maybe is subjective… I think that this movie would have been release earlier, at least for critics.

I got a chance to see this… this is by far Ronan’s showiest performance. She doesn’t rein it in as much as she did in the past; that may help her in a way to get nominated (as it’s pretty external in nature), but… the issue is that it’s simply not as good of a performance as I’ve come to expect from her, and it’s STILL worthy of a Best Actress nomination which is remarkable of her at her tender age. If I were to put it up next to “Brooklyn” and say hmm, which one should stay in her filmography, I’d easily choose Brooklyn.

Same deal for Robbie. Her performance is almost a redux of her “I, Tonya” work only set in a historical time period and with shittons of make-up. Gnawing off the environment with her sheer force of performance as we’ve come to expect from her. She has a significantly greater chance of winning than my fave Saoirse, but even then those chances are somewhat stymied by how competitive other contenders for Supporting Actress are.

The film as a whole is great, but that mainly stems from the acting jobs. If you’re into that, you’ll love this. It’s definitrly worthy of Oscar love so there’s that.

I saw this at the AFI Fest.

I thought that the film was alright but not great. I agreed with critics who say this film started off slow and only started to engage audience from the middle onwards. It also seemed like a TV series crammed into 2 hours.

I think the film has chances of getting nominated at Costume Design, Production Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, and Original Score, and that’s about it. Even so, both costume and production design would probably be won by The Favourite, a similar period piece. Makeup and hairstyling would probably go to Vice as I have seen shots of the shocking resemblance of Rockwell to Bush, Bale to Cheney, Carrell to Rumsfeld etc. Original score could be won by MQOS though, coz I believe they won the Hollywood music award for score.

As much as I love both Ronan and Robbie, I feel like other female performances are stronger this year. Contrary to some here, I feel Ronan overshadowed Robbie. Ronan has an outside chance of being nominated for actress but I don’t really see that too.
