I think Robbie has more a chance because Lead Actress is stacked. Ronan is a household name, so that could help her, but I can’t help but think that the movie comes out a bit too late. If Ronan wants to get into the lineup, she has to at least be nominated at the Globes. Supporting actress on the other hand is very wide open and Robbie is nearly unrecognizable in the movie. I just wrote an article yesterday about how physical transformations – like Robbie’s in this movie – help actors to be nominated. I am very curious about this movie!

lol @ Saoirse Ronan being more of a household name than Margot Robbie

I’ve been saying this for months now, I want it so hard to happen. But it’s not happening. Sadly.

I dont know. JLaw got one for Joy in a year where there was quite a few other actresses in the mix. She can get in this year… sadly McCarthy’s movie isn’t doing as well as it should. Saoirse’s movie has been talked about since before even last year’s Oscars.

Who exactly other than nominated was in contention that year? Theron for Mad Max: Fury Road? Maggie Smith for Lady in the Van? That year wasn’t stacked as this one.

I think Ronan sits comfortably at sixth spot below Colman, Gaga, Davis, McCarthy and Close. It all depends on the precursors to see if she can sneak in.

Given last years overperformance by Phantom Thread + Darkest Hour + Victoria & Abdul in nominations, this Movie has a great chance of overperforming (in nominations) if they embrace the movie for anything.

This now looks plausible for upwards of half a dozen noms, albeit probably not a Best Picture contender.

100% on rotten tomatoes, this is about to be the darkest hour of 2019. I’m talking actress, supporting actress, costume, makeup & hair, production design, maybe score or sound categories tbh, and a potential last slot picture contender. Don’t call me crazy this stuff happens

I had doubts, but I think this film will go far.

Man, I had this one pegged as the obligatory so-so biopic that gets half a dozen nods and got laughed out of here a couple months ago. Should have never changed my mind on it.

I wanna add Ronan to my 5 but i can not for the life of me decide who to take out.

If I were a Oscars member, it would be impossible for me to not compare MQoS to The Favourite and those past “queen” films.

Sorry guys, no way MQoS is this year’s Darkest Hour. The main, if not only reason why DH was nominated for BP is the fact that Oldman was a lock for Best Actor since the beggining of the race.

I would say the theme of standing up to fascism also hit the right chord in the shadow of SCROTUS’s first year in office. The solidarity of women in power in a misogynistic landscape certainly has relevance these days, but not enough to make an impact outside the craft categories, I’m betting.
