ReplyDecember 10, 2011 at 6:37 pm #46217I still have to many films to see to make any type of top ten list but at this point I would say “Moneyball”, “Midnight in Paris” and “The Descendants” will likely make it. “The Skin I Live In” and “Drive” are possible. “Hugo” keeps hauting my mind with its imagery, much like “Black Swan” last year, so it sould make my top ten despite some initial reservations. “Melancholia” is a film that will likely make a lot of top ten lists around here but no mine.
I anxiously await seeing “The Artist”, “Poetry”, “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”, “A Separation”, etc. so I can make my personal top ten.

Or Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

BTW, I’m so excited to see ‘Young Adult’. ‘Tree of Life’, and ‘Drive’ with multiple mentions!
I am so far from making a top 10 list. I’m behind on everything.

My entertainers of the year!
ReplyCopy URLDecember 13, 2011 at 12:13 am #46224I’ve only seen seventy+ films so far this year. I’m behind my usual pace but so far, this is mine: All of these films moved me in some way, and are filled with technical mastery and great perfs and ensembles (imo)
HUGO Hugo is so rich in detail I dont know where to begin, from the smoke hovering in the air to the fabulous buttons on Isabelle’s coat. A film made by a director who clearly loves the movies, as do you and I. A Masterpiece. My chip is on Hugo for BP. I think this may be my favorite ensemble.
Midnight In Paris A great ensemble and a loving view of Paris. The only true comedy for me this year. Thanks Woody.
Tree of Life Why do you make us wait so long for your next film???
Rango Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp can make such a great team. Still my favorite animated film this year.
My Week With Marilyn Just a split-second look from Michelle Williams is all it took, So happy for Eddie Redmayne too, who can now choose whether he wears a codpiece in his next film, or not.
I can sense I’m going to time out, so I’ll finish later.
