    Hi there & welcome –

Could you change the thread title to “Member Top 10s”? If everyone here starts setting up one for him or herself, it’s going to take up a lot of pages.

    Thanks!

(Just click EDIT on the thread, change the title, then click UPDATE)

I still have to many films to see to make any type of top ten list but at this point I would say “Moneyball”, “Midnight in Paris” and “The Descendants” will likely make it. “The Skin I Live In” and “Drive” are possible. “Hugo” keeps hauting my mind with its imagery, much like “Black Swan” last year, so it sould make my top ten despite some initial reservations. “Melancholia” is a film that will likely make a lot of top ten lists around here but no mine.

I anxiously await seeing “The Artist”, “Poetry”, “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”, “A Separation”, etc. so I can make my personal top ten.

You mean that Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is on it?!

Or Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

    —————–

BTW, I’m so excited to see ‘Young Adult’. ‘Tree of Life’, and ‘Drive’ with multiple mentions!

I am so far from making a top 10 list. I’m behind on everything.

I have seen only 17 2011 movies, so no where close to making a Top Ten list. But, at this point the only film that I am sure will be on it is Rango, which would be my No. 1 at the moment.

I’ve only seen seventy+ films so far this year. I’m behind my usual pace but so far, this is mine: All of these films moved me in some way, and are filled with technical mastery and great perfs and ensembles (imo)

HUGO   Hugo is  so rich in detail I dont know where to begin, from the smoke hovering in the air to the fabulous buttons on Isabelle’s coat. A film made by a director who clearly loves the movies, as do you and I. A Masterpiece. My chip is on Hugo for BP. I think this may be my favorite ensemble.

Midnight In Paris    A great ensemble and a loving view of Paris. The only true comedy for me this year. Thanks Woody.

Tree of Life    Why do you make us wait so long for your next film???

Rango   Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp can make such a great team. Still my favorite animated film this year.

My Week With Marilyn   Just a split-second look from Michelle Williams is all it took, So happy for Eddie Redmayne too, who can now choose whether he wears a codpiece in his next film, or not.

I can sense I’m going to time out, so I’ll finish later.

This is a work in progress, since there are significant films I have not yet seen (Margaret, The Interrupters, The Arbor, To Die Like a Man, The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu included), but here is a work in progress of 9 films (leaving room for one more)

    Top tier:

    Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
    Poetry
    Melancholia
    Hugo

    Very close:

    A Separation
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives
    Certified Copy
    How I Ended This Summer
    Mysteries of Lisbon

Love all of your mentions for TGwTDT. After reading your take on “Shame”, I’m wondering if Fassbender’s perf and the film itself would make your ‘top’ ten thousand?
And you’re a young ‘un to boot!

For now, this is mine. I’m still looking forward to watching Hugo and my golly, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I mean, I put off EL&IC to my bucket list because of the bad reviews it had gotten. But because of that BP nom, I’m considering putting it back.

    1. The Descendants

    2. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

    3. Midnight in Paris

    4. The Artist

    5. Bridesmaids

    6. A Separation

    7. The Help

    8. Moneyball

    9. The Ides of March

    10. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
