Meryl Streep is one of the greatest actresses that have ever lived and holds the all-time record for most acting Oscar nominations with 21 and 3 wins. However many argue that the only reason she gets nominated some years is because the is Meryl Streep.
The question is how many Oscar nominations and wins should she really have and who should have been nominated and won ?June 18, 2019 at 12:10 pm #1202943035
Not familiar with much of her old work, but from recent years Florence Foster Jenkins and Julie & Julia, I pretend those 2 never happened.June 18, 2019 at 12:20 pm #1202943044
She deserves all of the ones she has, and a few more for perfs that didn’t get nominatedJune 18, 2019 at 12:34 pm #1202943072
Music of the Heart, Florence Foster Jenkins, and The Post are the only three where I take her out totally, but every other time she gets in on merit.
Probably one of the most egregious aspects of Meryl’s record is that they put her in Leading for supporting roles as a name check, so I would move her down to Supporting for One True Thing, The Devil Wears Prada, and maybe more of a hot take but I think Julia should have been in Lead for August Osage County and Meryl in Supporting. She was arguably borderline for Florence Foster Jenkins as well but since the film is titled after her character I’ll give her a passJune 18, 2019 at 1:06 pm #1202943152
Darlings, you’re disgusting. The Post is a masterpiece and Meryl deserved the Oscar.
Lena Headey hasn't got an Emmy for Game of Thrones????? Emmys you need to win her right now!!June 18, 2019 at 1:28 pm #1202943199
I know people aren’t crazy about her “Doubt” performance, but it’s one of (if not) my favorites. I love the scene-stealing, hammy, chew-the-scenery of the performance. It’s excellent, and she would have been a great winner.June 18, 2019 at 2:08 pm #1202943309
I must say that FFJ being her 20th nomination was so upsetting as it is not a great performanceJune 18, 2019 at 2:52 pm #1202943374
I have her nominated for 15 performances but mostly because of my limited knowledge I must admit.
Florence Foster Jenkins (Fifth)
Into The Woods (Third)
August: Osage County (Fourth)
The Iron Lady (Second)
The Devil Weards Prada (First)
The Hours (Third)
Death Becomes Her (Second)
Postcards From The Edge (Third)
A Cry In The Dark (Second)
Out Of Africa (Fourth)
Sophie´s Choice (Second)
Kramer Vs. Kramer (First)
The Deer Hunter (Third)June 18, 2019 at 2:55 pm #1202943378
This type of thread is created every few months…
I would take away the Adaptation, Music of the Heart, and The French Lieutenants Woman. Give her one for the Hours and she’s still have 19 nominations.
She’s great in Florence Foster Jenkins with the amount of pathos she puts into that role.June 18, 2019 at 3:22 pm #1202943397
-Music Of The Heart
-Julie & Julia
-The Iron Lady
-August Osage County
-Into The Woods
-Florence Foster Jenkins
She can keep her other wins and swap out her win from Iron Lady and Give her the win for Cry In The Dark/Evil Angel.June 18, 2019 at 5:12 pm #1202943485

I think Julia should have been in Lead for August Osage County and Meryl in Supporting.
Based on the Broadway production of the play, both characters played by Meryl and Julia are considered to be leading roles. In fact, the actress who played Violet (Meryl’s character in AOC) won the Tony award for best actress in a play and the actress who played Barbra (Julia’s character) was nominated in the same category.June 18, 2019 at 10:31 pm #1202943766

I don’t know why most of us think so. For me, she deserved her nomination for Florence Foster Jenkins cos her performance was great.
I don't know who to STAN yetJune 18, 2019 at 10:35 pm #1202943768
I know nothing concerning her older works but the only nomination of hers that I really stand against is the one for The Post. It was such a boring performance in a role that seemed easy. Take away the subject matter and you’ll see how useless the entire movie is/was.
If you think she didn’t deserve it for Florence Foster Jenkins, it means you’re just a hater who’s been bitter since 2017 due to the deserved Amy Adams snub that year
