    Best Actress: Sophie’s Choice
    Best Actress: Silkwwood
    Best Actress: Ironweed
    Best Actress: The Iron Lady

She would’ve been my pick of the nominees for Julie and Julia, too.

Ironweed? Lol. The worst nominee that year !

I watched The Bridges of Madison County for the first time and loved it. What a fantastic, tragic, simple love story. Meryl is tremendous in this.

just judging from the nominees I would say bridges of madison county and adaptation. maybe a cry in the dark, but I do have a soft spot for glenn and her big melodrama. sophie’s choice would’ve been a no-brainer had I not been prompted by a certain poster to rewatch victor/victoria, which turned out to be a completely different (and wholly astonishing) movie from the censored version I saw on tv in my early teens

Sophie’s Choice and Kramer v. Kramer

maybe supporting for Devil Wears Prada—I need to study the other nominees that year.

I wanted Viola Davis to win for The Help when Meryl won for Iron Lady, so definitely not that one.

She was my top choice out of the five nominees 5 times:

    Kramer vs. Kramer
    Sophie’s Choice
    A Cry in the Dark
    Adaptation
    Julie & Julia

I also would have nominated her for The River Wild, Before & After (underrated), and She Devil (Supporting Actress).

    Yes, for The Post.

That was the year of McDormand and her performance could not lose.

Streep was the least deserving nominee that year. Lucky to even be nominated.
