Meryl Streep will most like get Oscar nod #20 for “Florence Foster Jenkins.” But which of the previous did she really not deserve?

3. Lead Actress: “The French Lieutenant’s Woman,” 1980
4. Lead Actress: “Sophie’s Choice,” 1981
5. Lead Actress: “Silkwood,” 1982
6. Lead Actress: “Out of Africa,” 1984
7. Lead Actress: “Ironweed,” 1986
8. Lead Actress: “A Cry in the Dark,” 1987
9. Lead Actress: “Postcards from the Edge,” 1989
10. Lead Actress: “The Bridges of Madison County,” 1994
11. Lead Actress: “One True Thing,” 1997
12. Lead Actress: “Music of the Heart,” 1998
13. Supporting Actress: “Adaptation,” 2001
14. Lead Actress: “The Devil Wears Prada,” 2005
15. Lead Actress: “Doubt,” 2007
16. Lead Actress: “Julie & Julia,” 2008
17. Lead Actress: “The Iron Lady,” 2010
18. Lead Actress: “August: Osage County,” 2012
19. Supporting Actress: “Into the Woods,” 2013
wins are in bold.
For me it’s “Music of the Heart” which could’ve easily been a Lifetime TV movie. Maybe its the movie…or maybe the NSYNC song is what really did it for me.

She’s in the wrong categories for Devil and August.

Are you serious? That’s one of her best. The movie is bad but not the performance.

To me it is one of her weaker performances. Sophie’s Choice, Silkwood, Kramer, Deer Hunter and many more are vastly superior.

She’s co-lead for August and literally the backbone of Prada.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 27, 2016 at 5:21 pm #1201975836If we start a thread of this, we can do Jack Nicholson too. But her “worst” nom is Music of the Heart and to a lesser extent, Adaptation.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 27, 2016 at 5:32 pm #1201975849A Cry in the Dark, Music of the Heart, One True Thing, August: Osage County, Into the Woods and probably FFJ shouldn’t have been nominated, and I think she could have been better in Ironweed and Doubt.

I didn’t understand her praise for Adaptation. She was just meh in that. And Music of the Heart, yes she played an ordinary person, but no.

Hathaway is the lead of Devil. Streep starts out as the focus of August, but Roberts becomes the true lead.

She is good but definitely not oscar worthy. Esp over Reese Witherspoon in Election, that’s one of the greatest comedic performances of all time.

I also don’t think there is anything too special about her Adaptation performance.December 27, 2016 at 6:09 pm #1201975879I wouldn’t have recognized her for The French Lieutenant’s Woman, Out of Africa, Ironweed, Music of the Heart, The Devil Wears Prada or Into the Woods. The absolute worst, I would argue, is Into the Woods.
