As some of you may know, I am currently semi-retired from this site, and I still plan on doing that… but I have had this idea in my head for a number of years and I think it might be fun to do.

Inspired by the “Jeopardy: Battle of the Decades” miniseries that the show had a couple of years ago, I thought it would be fun to have a series like that but with every winner of the Oscars competing with each other in their respective categories in respective decades.

I have not decided whether I want it to be actual decades (1930s, 1940s, 1950s, etc.) or whether I want to do it based on the ceremony number (1st-10th, 11th-20th, 21st-30th, etc.)

There would be every category that is currently a category as of last year (I am however contemplating whether or not to split the Sound categories), with every winner from said categories. For example: “Best Visual Effects: 1990s” and the “winner” would move on to the “Finals” or something, I dunno I am just spitballing.

All of it will be voted on from various polls.

I thought it would be fun, but I do not know if its a good idea or even if I will follow through with it. It might be interesting and fun to do.

I am semi-retired on GoldDerby. Still predicting but infrequent in the forums. I am sorry for my past behaviour.

    A tournament sounds fun.

It’s gonna be difficult with category changes though like you said. You might be better off using periods where the Academy gave out the same nominations rather than going strictly by decade.

There have been many alterations and rule changes occuring in the middle of decades which may cause you some issues.

    Take the 1960’s for example.

Up until 1968, many techs had both a Black-and-White category and an In-Color category. In 1968, they combined them into single categories.

    Another example:

Sound mixing had been around since 1930. They added sound editing in 1963. They combined the two in 2012.

You might be better off choosing periods where the categories are consistent.
