NO BEARS (32 points)January 7, 2023 at 11:58 am #1205225857The most shocking was how good it did in LA, even better than NY where it only got 2 awards. I’m still surpised how outside of the Trifecta, other critics have only rewarded Blanchett mostly.
they’re rick and morty-ing it.

I’m realizing after Scorsese’s speech for Field that as much as TAR has gotten a lot of buzz online, it’s still seen as an underdog in the BP race even among the presumed locks. If there’s any kind of subconscious backlash to the Oscars last year, I think it may be boosting TAR the most.

No Bears! Okay, that’s cool. I wish there were more picks like this.

So cold movies that don’t appeal to a wide audience, that have a str8 actor portraying an awful gay person?
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2023 at 12:05 pm #1205225883I don’t think they have a foreign language category.
Yes they do. “Roma” & “Collective” are past winners, and “Drive My Car” would have won if not the picture winner.

I thought they were including all films in Best Film now, without a separate category for international films. But it wasn’t a definite change, they just didn’t have Best Foreign-Language Film last year because Drive My Car won Best Film. My bad.

Jafar Panahi, NO BEARS (36 points)January 7, 2023 at 12:36 pm #1205225923As someone who absolutely hates Tar I was fully expecting it to win. Pretentious drivel about a privileged awful white woman winning with the pretentious mostly white privileged awful critics isn’t a huge stretch. Fully expecting it. The Oscars won’t be the same story – Blanchett is the only real potential winner for Tar there and she has huge competition from Yeoh (and I am predicting Yeoh). Tar is not well regarded and loved by AUDIENCES and most academy members are not cinephiles!. Goldderby members are (mostly) cinephiles and not regular audience members (myself included). Critics have lost their minds lately – they are meant to serve the status quo and so they do engage in groupthink and keep the propaganda going. There are very few critics who I respect anymore.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2023 at 12:38 pm #1205225929I have a feeling they purposefully decided to spread the wealth a little since given their ott love for Tar they probably would’ve put it at least 2nd if they didn’t already know the previous wins.
