Has anyone read the recent articles Vulture published about nepotism in the industry? If yes, what are your thoughts?
Jamie Lee Curtis recently shared her thoughts on Instagram:
Jamie Lee Curtis on the nepo baby discussion: “The current conversation about nepo babies is just designed to try to diminish and denigrate and hurt.”

Jamie’s not wrong because judging from what I’ve seen on social media since that NY Mag cover story was published it seems like a lot of people do automatically associate nepotism with lack of talent and work in general for some reason. She still acknowledges her privilege and position of advantage in the industry (and always has) anyway, which is basically all that’s asked from nepo babies when they first come out really..December 23, 2022 at 12:39 pm #1205207664This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.December 23, 2022 at 12:42 pm #1205207668
The days of Harrison Ford being spotted sweeping a set and getting a starring role are long gone. In today’s Hollywood if you don’t have the connections you will never have a chance

JLC acknowledges her privilege and background, but then there are others who constantly deny their famous parents had anything to do with opening doors for them. One example is Lily-Rose Depp. She closed a Chanel show at 17 and has been an ambassador for them for years (her mother Vanessa was a previous Chanel ambassador). She’s going to be in the Nosferatu remake.
Laura Dern, Angelina Jolie, Maya Hawke and Margaret Qualley have famous parents, and they’re all talented in their own right. I remember feeling unimpressed when I read Maya was going to join Stranger Things. But I was blown away by her performance when the third season aired.
JLC is wrong though. There are nepotism babies who aren’t talented at all (Maude Apatow, Emma Roberts, Lily-Rose Depp and Zoey Deutch). Maude was frequently cast in her father’s films when she was younger, and was a guest star on three episodes of HBO’s Girls in 2015 (her father was a producer).December 23, 2022 at 8:06 pm #1205208167
There are truly talented Nepo babies. Katharine Hepburn is the Godmother of Hollywood and she comes from the privilege world.
I can see both sides of this.December 23, 2022 at 8:50 pm #1205208181
I can see a bit of hypocrisy in many that are criticizing nepo babies, I’m sure they wouldn’t miss the opportunity if someone from their family helped them break into Hollywood and I think 90% of the actors had connections in Hollywood or came from rich families, I was surprised when i heard Emma Stone, Edward Norton, Robin Williams and Olivia Wilde came from rich families.December 23, 2022 at 9:54 pm #1205208203
Vulture also included these along with the articles published (there’s more on their website):December 23, 2022 at 10:06 pm #1205208209
A lot of the actors featured have been famous for years-Gwyneth and Drew-and then there are newer faces who have been in big projects this year (Lewis Pullman, the Nivola siblings and Sosie Bacon). Well, it’s only natural for children to observe their parents and potentially get interested in doing the same job. Why shouldn’t they pursue their own dreams and ambitions? Surely they have more doors open but they still need to work hard, prove their talent and earn the respect of their peers and the public.
Sofia Coppola and B. D. Merrill, for example, got prominent roles in their parents’ pictures but it was obvious it was not their calling. The former became successful on her own behind the camera when she could have been exposed as a fraud very easily. The latter was gone from the industry shortly after.
PS. Mark Ronson being son-in-law of Meryl Streep blew my mind. I never knew that.December 24, 2022 at 11:16 pm #1205209065
Some has problems. Lily-Rose Depp is Never going to be in The High Level of his father. John David Washington is Never going to be in The Very High Level of his father DenzelDecember 24, 2022 at 11:20 pm #1205209069

I didn’t like Euphoria and I hate Malcolm & Marie so Sam Levinson is (in my very personal opinion) One of The Worst Nepo BabiesDecember 25, 2022 at 12:18 am #1205209096
To be fair not many can achieve the level of Denzel. I think John David proved he’s a very good actor already. Not now
