He was good in Hacksaw Ridge but so far he has had a pretty medicore career.

Loool, what??? What are you talking about???
This guy worked in his late 20s-early 30s with filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, and Mel Gibson.

I agree that something was missing here. Garfield was uneven to me, but had great moments at the end. Shipp was the weakest link in the cast.

The biggest threat to TTB best picture nod is West Side Story. So far this flim has a high 80s rating on RT by critics and a metacritic score in the 70s (btw only 33 so far compared to RTs 87 critics so I see its score going up) if WSS gets less than that then TTB is a safe bet for a best picture nod. Given the amount of musicals released this year one will surely get a best picture nod.

Although West Side Story could still have a huge uphill to climb due to it being a remake/reboot of a much lauded Best Picture winner as well as the fact that one of its leads is an accused rapist. It’s also worth noting that on Disney’s for your consideration website, they currently don’t have anything listed for that film at all.

Garfield delivered, but the film was mediocre. Nothing award worthy besides a cute Globe nom for Garfield

I dunno why the musicals of today are lacking that musical spice we used to get. I enjoyed The Prom though

Ramos is not happening for a win. GG comedy/musical will go to DiCaprio I fear.

Imagine with so many musicals in contention if they did that 💀

It’s been a few days since I saw it and I’ve had to process my thoughts a bit about this but I think sans Garfield’s performance (there’s no point in mentioning the obvious highlight of the film), what I really liked about this is that it didn’t feel like a sanitised musical in any way. It was quite dark and it took risks in what was essentially a depiction of the life of an artist. It felt very fossean in a way and the impact of it felt quite long-lasting and I don’t think I can really say the same about any recent musical film I’ve seen.

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

As a struggling NY actor who has always considered this to be more of a better musical piece than the juggernaut that was RENT, I was thoroughly pleased with what Lin Manuel Miranda was able to accomplish with this…especially since it is his directorial debut.

Andrew Garfield definitely deserves to be in the Best Actor conversation and, frankly, Theatre vet Robin de Jesus should be in contention for a Supporting Actor nom.

This was such a passionate love letter to the Broadway theatre world, and while it was by no means perfect, it was still one of the better stage-to-screen adaptations I have seen in quite a while.
