Emerald Fennell has set up her next project at MRC Film and with LuckyChap in talks to produce (both produced Promising Young Woman as well). She will once again write, direct and produce and is meeting with actors.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it’s said to be a story of obsession.

I wonder who will be in this movie. I assume bigger names would be running to work with her after Promising Young Woman and Killing Eve season 2.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 4, 2022 at 7:09 am #1204773608As an Emma Stone Stan, I couldn’t help but think about how great Emma could have been in the lead role in Promising Young Woman while I was watching that movie. And don’t get me wrong, Carey Mulligan was more than great in the role and I immediately became a fan of hers after seeing the movie. But as Mulligan is going to be occupied with filming Bradley Cooper’s Maestro this year, I’m praying to Daniel Day-Lewis to make this casting happen. It’s been 3 years since Emma’s last nomination and she doesn’t have any future projects that scream Oscar because Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things coming this year is not it in my opinion.
But what would really anger me is if she casts Margot Robbie. Because according to the announcement, Margot and her company are in talks to produce this film. And I kind of hate Margot Robbie for stealing Emma’s role and potential Oscar nomination for Damien Chazelle’s Babylon. Lol

To disqualify a candidate (who is a good actress in her own right) before even knowing about the role?
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 4, 2022 at 7:17 am #1204773633If Fennell is looking to cast a little older, I would love for her to cast Amy Adams because like Emma Stone, she too has not been nominated in 3 years and Amy is coming off possibly one of the worst years of her career in 2021 with The Woman in the Window and Dear Evan Hansen. And Amy also doesn’t have any future projects that scream Oscar because Disenchanted and Night Bitch are not it. And it still bogels my mind how she wasn’t the first choice for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, no offense to Emily Blunt.

I actually don’t hate Margot. I’m just salty about the Babylon thing. I actually think she is talented and arguably the most beautiful actress working today. I just feel Margot’s last nomination was 2 years ago and she is definitely going to be nominated next year for Babylon and might even land 2 nominations if David O. Russell’s movie is good. So I feel like she doesn’t need another nomination the year after that. I would prefer the role to go to more Oscar starved actresses I stan like Emma or Amy. If Margot is eventually cast, all well and good, I won’t kill myself. Lol

Everything is not about Oscars.

She plays obsession well.

Emerald seems to be very in synch with current pop culture, the zeitgeist etc. I wonder if she’s gonna tackle the theme of obsession through the lens of someone younger, obsessed with an idol, or something to do with social media.
Anyway, we’ll have to wait and see, but I’m expecting great things!

How about Michaela Coel, Sandra Oh, Wunmi Mosaku, Alfre Woodard, Awkwafina, Jodie Turner-Smith, Freida Pinto, Rosario Dawson…
