Eternals did nothing for anyone in that movie. Hopefully he can stay sober to take advantage of his opportunities.

It has been ostensibly categorised as a thriller, a mystery, and a comedy/drama, but it swings between genres so seamlessly and frequently that none of these accurately capture this unusual tale. It starts out and finishes as a tragic and intense revenge dream, but it also spends some time as a comedy, a psychological study, and even a romance. All of these things mesh and complement each other well to reinforce the main theme.

I think they should have sold to Focus instead because not only did they release Promising Young Woman. But they also released Emma and Pride & Prejudice, movies about the English country elite (the latter also featuring Rosamund Pike). And Amazon is going to be occupied with pushing the Ben Affleck, Matt Damon Air Jordan movie that could result in the casualty of this movie. And this is not 2020, its going to be harder for streaming movies to breakthrough at the Oscars than ever before in my opinion. Not only that a theatrical release makes it more notable and more of an event than being a movie of the week on a streaming service. I feel Emerald and the producers didn’t think too much about it and just followed the dollar signs. Oh well.

Apparently, it was initially going to be just a cameo but Carey asked for and received a different, somewhat larger part. (This will be the third movie that Carey and Rosamund Pike have both been in.)

I need to catch up with the actors on actors this season! I’ve not had the time to watch any yet but there are quite a few pairs I’m interested in seeing including this one.
I wonder if the relationship between Mulligan and Pike’s characters will be as close as they were in Pride and Prejudice (where they were sisters) and An Education (where they were acquaintances). It would make for an interesting, an otherwise completely unrelated, trilogy if they were playing say lovers.

It’s not clear that Pike and Mulligan even have any scenes together in Saltburn, although of course, they might. I hope they do.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 5, 2023 at 5:59 pm #1205290471There have been some comments about the film, including performances and screentime, from those who attended the test screening which have been posted on Twitter. Here is a summary of what I’ve read:
-Keoghan is the only lead, everyone else is supporting, including Pike despite her being descibed in the press as the lead when her casting was initially announced. Elordi is the one who is described as coming closest to being a co-lead. Mulligan is only in 2-3 scenes.
-The comments were very positive about the performances in general, especially Keoghan. One poster said it was hard to guess which of the supporting cast would get the most buzz because they were all solid/good. Pike was said to get the best lines.
-While Mulligan isn’t in the film much, it seems she does make a strong impact, and her character was described as having a comic relief role in the film, which got laughs at the screening. Her character’s look/styling in the film sounds like it might be controversial, the poster who saw the film said it was “embarrassing”, although they were very positive about the performance itself.
-Elordi’s performance is described as having some similarities to his performance of Nate Jacobs, but as being more likeable in this film.
-Ewan Mitchell from House of the Dragon has a small role early in the film as a university friend of Keoghan’s character at Oxford, he only has about 5 minutes of screentime though.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 5, 2023 at 9:10 pm #1205293096Hi, I would also like to add: I’d had never seen Alison Oliver or Archie Madekwe’s previous work but boy did they deliver in this. They both had fantastic moments especially Alison who has a monologue. The movie fully showcases Keoghans insane commitment as an actor. He will shock you. And Carey has a fun cameo, her scenes are with the whole ensemble! The cinematography and visuals are so good you can eat it. Oh and it takes place in the early 2000s.
