There’s no romance in the movie but Barry’s character does fruity stuff
Thanks for adding more to the thread. Does this take place with someone else at Saltburn, if not with Elordi’s character? Or is it with Elordi, but not in a romantic way, more like a brief hook-up? Or something more along the lines of partying/frat style antics at Oxford and/or Saltburn and not about hooking up with anyone? Thanks again for any information.

they both do sexual stuff but not with each other. Some is frat style (the stuff Felix does), and the rest is very sinister and twisted (Oliver)

Thanks for clarifying this. I read an interview with Keoghan where he says this was one of the roles which stretched him the most, so that makes sense in the light of this description.
Would you say Oliver’s obsession with Felix is more about wanting to be someone like him and share a similar kind of lifestyle, rather than wanting to be with him in an intimate way, or is it implied that he actually would have liked some kind of sexual relationship with him, but Felix never returned those feelings so it didn’t happen? And is Felix ever implied to be bisexual or is he only shown with women? Thanks again for any information.

in my opinion, Oliver’s intentions were never clear. The movie opens in a way that suggests you’re about to watch a gay love story, but then Oliver’s actions, as well as other characters actions, disrupt that dynamic and it turns into something more complicated and complex. The ending certainly didn’t help me understand I feel like it made things more confusing. I guess the most basic takeaway would be that he was just obsessed with that kind of lifestyle, but i hope it was meant to be deeper than that
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 9, 2023 at 11:54 am #1205298404It didn’t give insight of how Felix was interpreting their relationship. It felt like he was oblivious to everything going on around him. The supporting cast was more attentive

Thanks for this. It does sound confusing, I wonder if reviews are going to be mixed due to character motivations not being clear.

Thanks for commenting on this too. I had wondered how aware or not his character was about the whole situation, I am surprised the script didn’t address this more. I’m still very interested to see how this all plays out in the film though.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 10, 2023 at 5:15 pm #1205299844@todiefor, thanks again for all your comments and insights. Would you say that Rosamund has a substantial role in the film, even if it’s a supporting one? I have seen a few comments from people who are disappointed that she isn’t one of the leads the way it was initially implied when her casting was announced. Hopefully she still has some good material to work with though? Would you say her character has a notable influence on the story in her own right, or is the emphasis more on her characterisation, or any comic relief elements she brings? I remember a comment saying she had the best lines.
Also, I know credits often aren’t finalised for test screenings so this may not be clear, but I wondered about the billing order of the actors in the credits. I assume Keoghan will be listed first but do you remember anything about the others? I had wondered if Carey got a ‘with’ or ‘and’ credit, which would fit with her having a cameo role while also being a major name. But as I said, I can understand this aspect of the film may not have been attached to the screening version.
Thanks again.

-Barry Keoghan
-Jacob Elordi
-Richard E. Grant
-With, Carey Mulligan
-And, Rosamund Pyke

I think there’s a possibility that they do with Carey Mulligan what was done with Alfred Molina in Promising Young Woman and that she goes unbilled. (I wonder whether Emerald was pleased or annoyed that Margot Robbie disclosed in that Actors on Actors interview that Carey is in the movie.)
I also wonder if Emerald will have a cameo.

It actually makes more sense for Mulligan to be unbilled. You are right. I can imagine Emerald playing a village gossip in the film. Or maybe she would be giving make up tutorials. Lol
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 11, 2023 at 5:56 pm #1205300609Yes I could see Carey not having a credit at all, given she was never included in any of the official casting announcements despite being one of the biggest names involved in the film. Given how small her role has turned out to be, maybe they thought highlighting her involvement would get audience hopes too high, and lead to expectations that she would have more to do than she does.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 11, 2023 at 6:30 pm #1205300627On a different note, does anyone know what screen testing it in early February might suggest about a possible premiere date? Is there any possibility this could be at Cannes, or is that unlikely, both in terms of timing, and also in the sense of Cannes often being hostile to having filmmakers in the main competition who haven’t previously been in any of the sidebars there? Although Fennell didn’t really have the opportunity for any of that as PYW was her first film and Covid meant it didn’t get many screening opportunities of that kind later than Sundance 2020. I know the autumn festivals are more likely but it would be great to see it sooner than that.

It seems like a fall movie to me but I won’t be surprised if gets a Cannes debut.
