Yes, the Golden Globes have two Best Pictures, but refresh my memory: how many AMPAS Best Pictures have gone to movies that would have been considered comedies/musicals by HFPA? That’s one reason they get away with it. (Another is, nobody seriously cares about Golden Globes except as a barometer for the Oscars.)

Well, if the Oscars must emulate another awards group, I would much rather it be The Golden Globes than The Independent Spirit Awards which is what pretty much what The Oscars mimics nowadays.

Lol what a train wreck of an idea. Absolute PR disaster and I can’t fathom how they don’t roll this back.

The fact that people are calling out ABC/Disney/Marvel for effectively buying themselves a nomination (if not the Oscar itself) is probably the worst reaction the Academy could have gotten (100% justified though).

And don’t even get me started on trying to shaft the tech categories to commercials – insulting them and making them feel inferior. Just an epic disaster this was.

BAFTAs are the first to move their 2020 awards date. Others will soon follow.

Why don’t they whore themselves out to the Academy while they’re at it?

I understand that Black Panther will probably win this new Oscar, but I think people really need to start looking past the “cultural impact” of the movie and start looking at the actual aspects of the film, which is what the Oscars awards. It really isn’t that much different than the other superhero films. The script wasn’t anything special, the visual effects were pretty bad, and the actors don’t warrant any awards. My guess is that if Black Panther wasn’t a mammoth at the box office, we wouldn’t even be mentioning it with the Oscars. I’m just getting tired of it being overhyped as this masterpiece. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it, but other than representing people and a culture that aren’t always portrayed, it was a pretty standard film in the Marvel universe.

I still am dreaming about a surprise Chadwick Boseman Lead Actor Oscar nomination. I found Black Panther outright extraordinary in its well-told storyline, social themes, and character development. Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man, and Spider Man: Homecoming were for me standard MCU fare in my opinion.

For your Goldderby Film Awards consideration: Isle of Dogs for every category, especially Music Score for Alexandre Desplat!

I don’t see Boseman getting nominated. If anybody gets the kind of push that saw Kaluuya nominated last year, it will be Jordan.

It is insane to me that the full details of this new category have yet to be announced, this is bullshit, no excuses for the Academy making this big announcement and then following it up with silence. 🙁

Someone should ask Whoopi. She’s one of the governors. She speaks what’s on her mind in everything but I wanna hear what’s her words on this new Oscar category.

Maybe it’ll be like IHOb and they’ll just act like it was a joke and not an attempt.

Given Peele’s screenplay win, I am inclined to agree.

I like the ideas of Best Casting, Stunt Coordination and Voice-over Performance.
