When we discuss animated films at the Oscars the conversation seems to go around basically 4/5 categories, Animated Film, Score, Song, Screenplay and Picture, but we all know that they can be nominated everywhere, it just doesn’t happen.
What nominations whould you give to ANY animated film? It can be on ANY category, Sound, Visual Effects, Acting, Director, Production Design, Costume Design, Cinematography, you choose!

Zootopia should’ve been nominated in Picture, Director, Screenplay, Production Design, Cinematography, Editing Song & Sound.

March 22, 2021 at 2:42 pm #1204151524Last night i saw Paprika and that would have been a great Adapted Screenplay nominee, plus Visual Effects and Production Design.
Perfect Blue was so deserving of Picture, Director, Screenplay and Cinematography.

Working backwards, here are some of the nominations I’ll give to various animated features outside of Animated Feature, music, or sound categories. They only go through ’96–I’ve just gotten lazy about making them up for previous years. But right now…

Wasn’t Ellen also nominated for Finding Nemo? BAFTA really did the right thing.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 23, 2021 at 9:23 pm #1204154419I put Into the Spider-Verse in my personal Production Design lineup, even though I’m not sure that’s even allowed at the Oscars.
Peter O’Toole’s name should have at least been in conversation for Ratatouille, but the Academy couldn’t care less about voice acting.
I definitely think directing in animation should be talked about far more. I would have nominated Howard and Moore for Zootopia just a few years back. Superb direction.

Directors like Satoshi, Docter and Lasseter should have been considered, if i remember correctly just this year the AACTA nominated Docter for Soul, which was such a beautiful choice <3
