I mean even the choice of Gael Garcia Bernal over Adams and Streep is questionable. Like what has he done since the mid 00s apart from that weird Amazon comedy.

Bernal delivered one of the best I’ve seen in “Amores Perros”. He’s great and underrated!

Yeah I meant since the mid 2000s what has he done (I was acknowledging his work from then but what I was saying is I wouldn’t call him one of the greatest actors of the 21st century).

November 26, 2020 at 7:08 am #1203874861Hang on I had a look at this again to see if only Adams and Streep were missing but Cate Blanchett missing? Seriously? I mean she’s on lists of the greatest actors ever and is the closest an actor is going to get (along with Kidman) to being as well respected and a long lasting career as Meryl Streep.
This list is a joke.

November 26, 2020 at 7:18 am #1203874890Where’s Meryl ? 👀
Viola should be Top 5.
And yes @ Michael B. Jordan making the list. Any questions?
ReplyCopy URLNovember 26, 2020 at 7:23 am #1203874905This crap list looks like a paid PR for some actors. Akin to People’s Sexiest Man Alive (unsurprisingly both are featuring MBJ) and Most Beautiful.
Oscar Isaac shouldn’t be on top 1000 list let alone above Dafoe. I guess that he’s media’s token Latino darling but they would do better if they cultivated someone who resonated. Which he doesn’t.

Even if this were true, they were happy to recognise Mahershala Ali despite him only having two notable film performances to mention

Only two when these exist? Make it make sense.

And two exceptional TV performances along with two more great ones. It is greatest actors after all not greatest film actors.

Well, the bad performances Streep gave this century must have overshadowed the good ones, I guess. Ali could have been left out too, if you ask me.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 26, 2020 at 9:54 am #1203875297So happy about the inclusions of Gael Garcia Bernal and Zhao Tao! They’ve been so consistently strong. I appreciated their excerpt about how Woodard herself might not have had roles to fully encapsulate her talent, but has demonstrated her range to be extremely far-reaching. While I do think they sought to construct a diverse group of actors, I think it is important to recognize that this list is acknowledging the talent and potential this actors have, not the opportunities they have been allotted. If we solely went based off of who top directors give roles to and who award shows typically celebrate, the list would be more of a rubber-stamp than an actual opinion (this whole thing is subjective anyways) on which actors this group found to be the most versatile and talented. Why celebrate people like Renée Zellweger, Hilary Swank, or Christoph Waltz that have been over-rewarded at awards shows when actors like Kim Min-hee and Toni Servillo are just as talented and can be subjectively praised for their portfolios from the past two decades? Perhaps this list came too early for an adequate recognition of talent from the 21st Century, but I found it to be a fine ranking.
